Catwalk to Death is a German crime film by Hans Werner from 2013. It is the 334th episode in the film series Polizeiruf 110 and the 50th and at the same time the last case for Schmücke and Schneider . It is the eighth case for Commissioner Nora Lindner ( Isabell Gerschke ).

With 9.37 million viewers, it is the most successful police series for almost 20 years and the third most successful episode ever.

action

At a model casting, sixteen-year-old Lisa Benthin collapses with a circulatory collapse and dies. After it is certain that the girl was poisoned, the inspectors Schmücke and Schneider investigate together with chief inspector Nora Lindner. According to the organizer, Sylvia Gregori, the victim was not a candidate for victory, which is why an attack out of competition jealousy seems unlikely. Lisa's mother cannot imagine who could hate her daughter like that. As far as she knew, Lisa had no enemies.

Forensics has now found out that Lisa has consumed a drink that contained aconitine , a poison from monkshood . But in such a low concentration that it would normally not have been fatal. Because of the bulimia from which the model suffered, the poison was able to get into the bloodstream faster and therefore had this dramatic effect.

In the course of the investigation, the photographer Paolo Gregori comes under increasing suspicion because he had a relationship with her during the victim's lifetime and was previously under charges of sexual assault. Yet there isn't enough evidence to just take him into custody.

In addition to solving the murder, Schmücke deals with a previous, unsolved missing person case. On one of the older casting photos, he thinks he recognizes the then missing girl Yvonne Lukas. He thinks it is quite possible that both cases have common points of intersection.

In the middle of the casting, the model Nadine disappears after she was allegedly offered a lucrative model contract. She writes a farewell letter to her friend, Martin Wulkesch, but he doesn't accept it easily. He takes up the chase after seeing Nadine get into the car of make-up artist Jérôme Bonnair, who is part of the casting team.

Shortly before, Milena, another model, falls out of a hotel window. The investigators learn that Milena was looking for her three years younger sister, who disappeared similarly to Yvonne Lukas at the time. Milena had only applied as a model because she suspected that the castings were just a lure and that the organizers "sold" the young girls abroad. So she secretly copied files in the make-up artist's hotel room that she was supposed to track down the traffickers and her sister, but Bonnair caught her doing it and silenced her.

Martin Wulkesch is still following Bonnair and Nadine. While trying to stop the two, Bonnair's car crashes and he is killed. Nadine is injured and taken to the hospital. The investigators find out that Martin Wulkesch has tried everything for a long time to dissuade his girlfriend from the model plans. So he should have put the poison in the drinking bottle that was actually intended for Nadine, where it would only have caused discomfort. When they ask him about it, he frankly admits it.

Meanwhile, Schneider arrests Sylvia and Paolo Gregori for human trafficking and Schmücke tries to find the destination using Bonnair's navigation device. In doing so, he came straight to a brothel in Karlsbad and discovered Yvonne Lukas there. With the assistance of the Czech police, the illegal club is dissolved and the girls detained there are freed.

After solving the case, Schmücke and Schneider decide to retire.

When the runway to death was broadcast, the eighth season of Germany's Next Top Model started on ProSieben at the same time . Critics see the crime thriller as an allusion to the controversial broadcast format. Among others, Thomas Rath , a former jury member of “Germany's Next Top Model”, who plays a make-up artist on the police call, was hired as a guest star . There is also Sara Kulka , one of the top model contenders from 2012, who finished fifth in the seventh season.

After a total of 50 cases, adopt decorations and Schneider from Polizeiruf 110 . The team from Halle is followed by the Magdeburg duo Brasch and Drexler . criticism

For Spiegel Online critic Christian Buß , this police call was just “a sad farewell.” He writes very critically: “Apart from the fact that this construct is completely outrageous - the post-traumatic clean-up work on the catwalk by the old trench coat wearer Schmücke is downright simplification irresponsible. One of the girls who has been abused by older men for years does not want to go home in her shame. But when the inspector gently strokes her hair, she feels better. Bad. This downright cynical scene at the end of the film is then remembered by Schmücke. "

Thomas Gehringer from tittelbach.tv writes cautiously: “In their 50th and last case, Schmücke and Schneider fall back into the leisurely routine. [...] An appealing story about youth, transience and human trafficking, but a crude parody of the fashion business, told too slowly. The commissioners take an unspectacular and consistently old-fashioned farewell. "

TV Spielfilm showed the thumbs up and said: "The 50th and last case of the duo is one of its best." Conclusion: "Farewell performance with wit and dignity."
