Thomas Rath (born December 30, 1966 in Cologne ) is a German fashion designer , fashion entrepreneur, presenter and former juror of the TV show Germany's Next Topmodel broadcast by ProSieben .

Life

Thomas Rath began his professional career as a fashion designer at a very young age. Contrary to the family tradition, which ran a sausage factory in Cologne for three generations, he decided to go into the fashion world while still at school. As a 19-year-old, he supported the Goldbach company Basler Fashion at trade fairs , where he was responsible for styling the models at fashion shows.

After teaching himself to draw, he first became a trainee and later a young designer at Basler Fashion. He later worked as a designer for Windsor , Jil Sander , Mulberry and Escada , among others . In 2010 Thomas Rath founded his own fashion label Thomas Rath .

Rath also works as a stylist and dressed among others Claudia Schiffer , Linda Evangelista and Sarah Jessica Parker , for whom he made a dress for the film ball together with Escada founder Wolfgang Ley.

Thomas Rath met Sandro Rath in 1995, with whom he has had a legal partnership since 2001 . You live in Düsseldorf. In 2012 he caused a sensation when he spoke out against the adoption right for same-sex couples: "A child needs a mother and a father and should grow up like that and not with two men".

Fashion

Thomas Rath designs creations for women under the heading of Semi Couture . His company's headquarters are in Düsseldorf. In 2012 the fashion designer entered into a cooperation with the German trouser specialist Gardeur . Twice a year, he designs a collection for the trouser manufacturer under the Thomas Rath Trousers label . The Uomo by Thomas Rath collection was presented for the first time during the Berlin Fashion Week in July 2013 . In May 2014, the designer entered into a cooperation with the teleshopping company QVC and presented his THOM by Thomas Rath collection here . With his label of the same name, Thomas Rath , he operates 170 sales outlets in Germany and abroad. He produces his collections in Italy.

In 2016, the designer entered into a cooperation with the family company Loevenich. Since then, designer hats, caps and caps for women and men have been produced under the Thomas Rath Blue Label brand .

From 2016 to 2017 Thomas Rath was hired as a designer for Holiday on Ice and designed costumes for the leading actresses in Show Time .

In 2017, Thomas Rath presented a new boat from the Frauscher 1017 series in cooperation with Frauscher Boats. A total of seven boats from Edition Thomas Rath were built.

Until 2018, Rath designed a collection under the name Thomas Rath Trousers twice a year in cooperation with the German company Gardeur . He has been running the Thomas Rath Trousers brand himself since 2019 .

In 2011 and 2012 Rath appeared as a juror for Germany's Next Topmodel at ProSieben. He has been a guest juror there since 2013. He had other engagements as a styling consultant in the ProSieben show Beauty & The Nerd , in the celebrity magazine red! and on Sat.1 breakfast television . In March 2013, Rath played a model agent in the ARD crime series Polizeiruf 110 . In 2019 Rath took part in the RTL dance show Let's Dance .
