The twelfth season of the Live - dance show Let's Dance began on 15 March 2019 the now well recognized as the start Acquaintance show and culminated on June 14, the final final.
The show
On September 16, 2018, it was announced that professional dancer Isabel Edvardsson was ending her two-year maternity leave at the beginning of the season. With Nazan Eckes , a candidate took part in the show for the first time, which she had previously presented as a presenter , while Kerstin Ott was the first female participant to take on the male dance part and lead a woman across the floor. After Joana Zimmer in season 5 and Heinrich Popow in season 10 , the deaf Benjamin Piwko, the third celebrity with a disability , dared to take on the challenge of asserting himself against his fellow campaigners. He mastered the training in particular by observing his dance partner closely in order to get a feeling for the harmony of rhythm and movement, which she v. a. tried to convey it through body language and body contact - such as breathing and handshakes - but also through eye contact or light signals. During the live broadcasts, he was provided with a sign language interpreter who translated the jury's verdict in order to facilitate communication and made the sometimes spontaneous events more understandable for him.
The team battle on April 12th turned out to be a particular challenge, with the music titles selected for the respective groups for the first time in a gender-atypical way. While the women slipped into the roles of rodeo riders, Oliver Pocher appeared as the "school girl" Britney Spears . As in season 9 , the performances shown were heavily based on the associated music video .
The team dances celebrated a premiere on May 10th: Not only the candidates and their professional partners, the jurors also competed against each other by taking on the role of team captain. As such, the choice of music was in their hands, and they also came up with the choreography for it. Instead, they lost their right to vote when assessing their own team, especially since Motsi Mabuse and Joachim Llambi themselves were involved in the production. Thus, each formation could achieve a maximum of 20 additional points. The judgment was made after all three performances, which each combined two dance styles. By chance, the jurors chose exactly those actors in a team who are at the same level of performance, namely Pascal Hens and Ella Endlich ("Team Motsi"), Barbara Becker, Nazan Eckes and Benjamin Piwko ("Team Jorge") and Evelyn Burdecki, Sabrina Mockenhaupt and Oliver Pocher ("Team Llambi").
Finally, on May 31, the Trio-Dances were introduced, in which a second guest dancer, who has already left, is involved. While the prominent participant not only has to adjust to another mentor and harmonize with him as he is used to from his trusted companion, but is also faced with the stumbling block of having to assert himself twice in order to survive in the overall picture, the professionals in turn have the task of staging the third link in order to create an exciting choreography.
Unlike in previous years, Good Friday 2019 was bridged by the Let's Dance - The Greatest Moments of All Time special , where selected categories looked back on humorous, bizarre and emotional highlights and, in connection with this, the path of suffering and success of the former Participant came back to memory. Following this, the professional dancer Massimo Sinato and Christian Polanc entered Llambis dance-off a trip to the Hawaiian island of Oahu on. Taught by a men's dance group, they were supposed to learn the traditional folk dance hula within three days and perform it in front of a local audience, which gave Sinató eight and Polanc nine points for their achievements. Polanc won the duel with eight additional points from juror Joachim Llambi, while Sinató was able to collect seven more points.
Two weeks after the finale, some of the professional dancers in the special edition Let's Dance - The Great Professional Challenge on June 27th got the stage to themselves with the chance to show their athletic and creative skills either solo, as a couple or in an ensemble. The winner, who can choose his dance partner for the next season as a bonus, was chosen by the studio audience alone, while the jury only commented.
At the end of the dance, the format went live for the first time between November 8th and 29th. Moderator Daniel Hartwich and the jury made guest appearances together with selected professional dancers and celebrities of the annual season in 16 German cities and thus offered numerous enthusiastic fans the opportunity to experience the atmosphere of the studio live shows up close in concert arenas.

Pascal Hens and Ekaterina Leonova won the final with a tango to Carlos Gardel's Por una cabeza (30 points), a salsa to Valió la pena by Marc Anthony (30 points) and the freestyle to a medley from the film Madagascar with excerpts from the songs Stayin 'Alive ( Bee Gees ), Hawaii Five-O ( The Ventures ), What a Wonderful World ( Louis Armstrong ) and I Like to Move It ( Erick Morillo ) (30 points).
