After her career as Blümchen , she appeared under her real name after 2001. In 2003, Jasmin Wagner released his first single , which also became the theme song for a talent show . In 2006 a full album followed .

She now works mainly as an actress in theater , film and television productions and as a presenter.

Since 2019 there has been another long series of appearances as a flower as part of a “90s revival” tour .

Private life

Jasmin Wagner was born on April 20, 1980 as the daughter of a German and a Croat in Hamburg and grew up in the Jenfeld district . Even before school age, Wagner stood in front of the camera as a child model for various mail order catalogs . She received music lessons at an early age and learned to play the piano and flute . Together with friends, she founded a band that got their first stage experience at school parties. At the age of 14, Wagner appeared in front of a larger audience at games of the Hamburg Blue Devils American football team as a cheerleader for the Hamburg Blue Angels .

Through her singing teacher, with whom she received lessons at the age of eight, she was placed with the trained hairdresser Arn Schlürmann, called Paralyzer, and the former car salesman Stani Djukanovic, called Silence , who were looking for a voice and a face for a new music project. After the recording contract was signed , the recording of the song Herz an Herz , a cover of the title originally sung by the duo Paso Doble , began in 1985. The name of the project became a nickname that Wagner received from her mother when she was a child based on her first name - "Little Flowers".

Wagner was in a relationship with Lucas Cordalis for four years from 1997 . On February 14, 2015, she married the Swiss entrepreneur Frank Sippel in St. Moritz . The couple lives in Zurich .

Musical career

1995–1999: Success with Blümchen

In autumn 1995, Herz an Herz was published . The song is very different from the original interpreted by Paso Doble , which was attributed to the Neue Deutsche Welle . The pop title has techno and rave elements, Wagner's changed vocals and long instrumental parts. Only the chorus of the original was taken over unchanged. Initially a slow seller, the song was able to climb to number four in the German single charts due to the high rotation of the video clip on the music channel VIVA and reports in various newspapers . Frank Oberpichler , a member of Paso Doble, also composed or wrote other songs for Blümchen, including her second single Kleiner Satellit (Piep, piep), which also entered the top 10 of the German charts .

Blümchen received greater media attention, among other things, from the youth magazine Bravo and the music channel VIVA, which played its video clips. She was also a guest on many television programs and increased her popularity by hosting various youth formats. In 1996 she took over the moderation of Heart Attack. In the first years of her career, Wagner's discovery was presented differently than it actually was. The meeting with the producers Paralyzer and Djukanovic happened purely by chance at a Neue Deutsche Welle party, where she stood out because she sang loudly along with every song. After the end of her career as Blümchen, both Wagner and her management denied this story.

After the successful start of the career, work began on the first studio album by the then 16-year-old. The long player was titled Heart Rate and was first released in May 1996. Two more songs from the album followed, both of which reached the top 20 of the German single charts. Due to the success of Heart Rate - the CD stayed in the German charts for almost a year and was awarded a gold record - it was re-released in February 1997. It also contained the cover version of the Queen song Bicycle Race . In addition to Blümchen, sixteen other music projects such as Captain Jack , Mr. President or DJ BoBo covered titles by Queen for the compilation Queen Dance Traxx 1 in Eurodance and Rave versions.

After the tenth year of school, Wagner, who was still attending the Otto Hahn School in Hamburg-Jenfeld during her first publications, left the school with a secondary school certificate in favor of her career . However, she announced that she was planning to catch up on high school , which she has not yet done but is still planning.

The first attempts to establish Blümchen abroad soon followed. In Austria and Switzerland she was able to celebrate successes with the singles released up to then, and the album Heart Rate also made it into the charts there. There were also chart listings in Norway , the Netherlands and Hungary . Under the name Blossom, the first English-language versions of the German songs were published in other parts of Europe and also in Asia. A two-week promotional tour through Asia - destinations including the Philippines , Taiwan and Japan - followed in 1997.

At that time there was speculation in the media that Jasmin Wagner was actually older than stated in her official biography. These rumors were denied by her and her management as well as speculations about whether Wagner was just the face of Blümchen and whether she did not even sing the published songs herself. The latter was taken up again fifteen years later. (see below )

The release of the preliminary single Nur Traum , originally by Nena and also a cover for Neue Deutsche Welle, took place in spring 1997. Stylistically, this song, like the other tracks on the second studio album called Verliebt…, was similar to the songs on the heart rate Album were released. Nena herself described the cover version of her song as "sweet" and said that the producers asked if she wanted to sing the song together with Wagner in a duet. However, she declined the offer. For the first time Wagner reached the top 10 of the German charts with one of her albums and was once again awarded a gold record. Three more singles from the long player followed.

For album release began in the spring of 1997 under the name Love ... tour the first live tour through several cities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. For the presentation of her first ballad Gib 'Mir Noch Zeit , the then 17-year-old made a guest appearance in the daily soap Gute Zeiten, haben Zeiten on RTL . The song reached the top 10 of the charts as the fourth single in her career, while the live tour was extended by further dates due to great demand in the winter of the same year.

In the late summer of 1998, the third album by Blümchen followed under the title Jasmin . A change of image and style was carried out. Although the songs were still in the area of the dance genre, they could now be ascribed to pop music, and the songs were no longer limited to the refrains, but now also contained verses. Wagner colored her hair red for the release of the preliminary single Blaue Augen , a cover of the song by Ideal from the early 1980s, and presented herself increasingly "adult". For the first time the then 18-year-old took part in a song and wrote the lyrics of the song Hand In Hand (violence is stupid).

Like the previous album, Jasmin was able to reach the top 10 of the German charts. Although the album did not produce another top 10 single, the single releases can also be described as a success. Accompanying the album, Wagner toured again through larger cities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Excerpts from tour appearances were published on the VHS Blümchen '95 - '98 in addition to all previously shot music videos in November 1998. For the first time since starting her career, Jasmin Wagner took a long break after the release of her third album. She attended an acting college for three months in the USA and shared a flat with other students.

Blümchen (1999, Vienna)

Meanwhile she reached the French charts with the Franco-German re-recording of the song Du bist die Insel, which was originally included on the album Verliebt… . Tu es mon île placed 48th in a duet with the French singer Yta Farrow . In Sweden there were even several releases. The video for the song I'm here again was first broadcast on the Swedish music show Voxpop in December 1998. A first radio interview followed in Sweden. After the song reached number 12 in the Swedish dance charts, the Rozalla cover was also able to enter the official Swedish charts in January 1999 and rose to number 28. In April 1999 the publication of Nur Trauma followed. The song, originally published two years earlier, also made it into the top 30 of the Swedish charts. Wagner achieved her greatest success in Sweden with the song Heut 'ist mein Tag. In July 1999 the song rose to number 36 and climbed to number 10 in the charts in the following weeks and was awarded a gold record. The title stayed in the Swedish charts for a total of 21 weeks. Promotion dates and further publications in Sweden followed, including a collaboration with the Swedish musician E-Type . In neighboring Norway, Heut 'mein Tag even reached number 1 in the charts - to this day the title is the only number 1 single in Wagner's career.

In Germany, Heut 'ist mein Tag was published in spring 1999 to accompany the release of Jasmin's fan edition . For the last time, Blümchen was able to reach the top 20 of the German charts during active times. A few months later, in autumn 1999, the first live album was released , entitled Live in Berlin. For this purpose, the concert of the Jasmin Tour '98 in Berlin was recorded and published together with the Christmas song Under the Christmas Tree . Neither album nor single could build on the old successes. It was also criticized that Blümchen's musical style was not suitable for a live album.

In the spring of 2000, Jasmin Wagner released her fourth and last studio album under her stage name Blümchen with the name The world belongs to you. The long player was only able to stay in the charts for four weeks. The pre-released single Is Your Love Real? also did not reach a satisfactory chart position. The release of the second single The World Belongs to Me turned into a minor catastrophe - the song was only listed in the German single charts for a week and was only at number 96.

2000–2001: The temporary end of Blümchen

Blümchen (2000, Sangerhausen)

Shortly afterwards, in November 2000, a press release announced the end of the project and the Blümchen era for Jasmin Wagner.

“After five exciting, exciting and wonderful years it is time to break new ground. Like every other person, I have developed further. "

- Jasmin Wagner, 2000

Wagner defined the “new ways” mentioned in the press release by trying out new things like acting. In addition, she now wants to invest more time in things for which she had little time during her career as a little girl. She did not rule out further musical publications. Finally, the then 20-year-old went on tour through several cities in Germany. Some dates have been canceled due to low demand. After the release of the best-of album Für Immer und Ewig - Das Beste von Blümchen and the single Ich miss dich , Wagner's career as Blümchen ended on February 11, 2001 in Gerolzhofen, Franconia .

In the media, Blümchen was often portrayed as "innocent". Contributing to this was on the one hand the stage name, a diminutive of the word flower, on the other hand Wagner's assurances that she did not want to have a steady partner yet and that she would also remain sexually unaffected. Even just a teenager, she should also serve as a figure of identification for girls between the ages of ten and 15, problems of young girls were discussed in the songs of Blümchen. Due to Wagner's self-confident and strong appearance in the media and at concerts, these values were conveyed to the mostly young listeners.

Blümchen was widely regarded in the industry only as an artificial product, which in a certain sense cannot be denied, since the story of its discovery, for example, turned out to be false.

success

Jasmin Wagner (November 2002)

The project received five gold records, landed several top 10 hits in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and was also able to celebrate successes in Scandinavia from 1999 onwards. Blümchen was very successful commercially and received two Echo awards as well as four other nominations, but Wagner was also well received by the audience as the face of the project and was awarded various audience awards. Even today, Jasmin Wagner is one of the most popular German artists outside of the German-speaking area under her pseudonym Blümchen.

Speculation about Wagner's role in the project

As early as 1997, Der Spiegel reported rumors that Wagner's voice could not be heard on the Blümchen records. Wagner and her management denied this at the time. Fifteen years later, on May 15, 2012, the musician Jan Delay claimed in the TV program TV Total that Blümchen did not sing her first hit Herz an Herz herself. Delay said he knew the actual singer but did not reveal her name. The Berliner Zeitung Der Tagesspiegel quotes internet speculation that the studio musician Alexandra Prince was the actual interpreter. At the request of the Tagesspiegel , Wagner did not comment on the renewed allegations. Her former producer Stani Djukanovic, however, stated that the accusation was "complete nonsense". Wagner's voice was technically processed at the time and supported by background singers, but she can be heard as the lead voice in all of her songs. Alexandra Prince also denied the rumors in July 2012 and when asked how involved she was in Blümchen songs like Herz to Herz : “These rumors don't just bore me. I sang in the choir - no more and no less. "

2002–2009: career and works under his own name

In summer 2001 , a cover of Are you ready for some Darkness sung together with Die Ärzte member Bela B. appeared on the sampler Alpha Motherfuckers - Tribute To Turbonegro, a tribute album for the Norwegian death punk band Turbonegro . under the pseudonym Denim Girl. As part of the Hamburg All Stars , she also sang the song Die Stadt mit dem Nase im Wind, which was released as a single in September of the same year, with other Hamburg artists and celebrities . In December 2001 a new recording of the Christmas classic Santa Clause Is Coming To Town was released, which was sold exclusively by Tchibo .

The first real single release under his own name did not take place until late summer 2003. Wagner had teamed up with various producers and produced an album on which the most diverse musical styles should be included. The first single Leb 'Deine Traum, which also became the title melody of the third season of Popstars, was similar in sound to the songs of the Russian pop duo tATu , which celebrated great success with electro-pop songs in 2003. Wagner's first song under his own name reached number 24 in the German charts, while the follow-up single Helden wie wir, composed by Rosenstolz member Peter Plate , reached number 68 in the German single charts. Soon after, Wagner announced that an album that had already been completed would not be released. Wagner himself did not like the overall picture of the album, whereupon it was decided to keep it under lock and key. However, some songs were presented as part of a back-again tour through Germany.

In 2004 Wagner interpreted the song Hopelessly Devoted to You from the movie Grease in the RTL show Grease mania, which together with other cover songs from the movies Grease and Dirty Dancing and covers of Elvis Presley on the compilation Best Of Mania RTL in March 2004 was published.

In the winter of 2004 she also contributed a song to the soundtrack of the film 7 dwarfs - men alone in the forest with the name The Love of My Life and interpreted the song The Little Star on the Christmas compilation Your Stars for Christmas.

Soon after, Wagner began working on her second album. Together with composer Michel van Dyke and lyricist Bernd Begemann , the then 25-year-old recorded songs based on those of the 1960s . After the release date of September 2005 was postponed several times, the first long player appeared under her real name in April 2006, the single Men need love was released in advance . Neither the album nor the single were commercially successful - both only barely reached the German Top 100 and fell off the charts after only one week. However, the album received passable reviews .

In June 2006, the official song appeared on the 2006 FIFA World Cup of pay TV -Senders Premiere Will not Forget These Days, where Wagner as part of Team Germany Music participated.

In October of the same year Wagner played an unplugged concert as part of Sessions @ AOL and stayed at number 1 on the AOL Sessions chart for several weeks . In the same month, the song The Love of My Life, which had already appeared on the soundtrack to 7 dwarfs - Men alone in the forest , also appeared on the soundtrack of the follow-up film 7 dwarfs - The forest is not enough . In January 2007, Wagner founded his own record company New Sentiment, a sub-label of edel Records . Wagner was already under contract as Blümchen at edel Records. A planned tour on some North Sea islands in summer 2007 was canceled.

2010–2018: Further musical work

Blümchen's involuntary comeback

Wagner at the Berlinale 2010

The seventh season of the casting show Deutschland sucht den Superstar ended in April 2010 . In order to prevent the winner Mehrzad Marashi from reaching the top of the German charts with his debut single Don't Believe , anti-DSDS projects were formed on various Internet platforms. Among other things, the IOFF media forum called for Blümchens Boomerang to be bought digitally in order to place the song ahead of Marashi in the charts. However, this did not succeed: While Don't Believe came in first, Boomerang landed in seventh place. For Jasmin Wagner, the campaign turned out to be a great success. Boomerang, which only climbed to eleventh place in the German charts in 1996, subsequently became Blümchen's fifth top 10 hit. In the course of the high attention edel music decided to release Boomerang again as a 2-track single. In addition, on May 7, 2010, Blümchen's Best Of from 2003 was released again as a new edition, but without any notable success. The album missed the German album charts. Wagner emphasized several times that he was not involved in the action, but supported it.

The CD Jasmin Wagner singt Alexandra was released in July 2012 and is only available from Reader's Digest . A CD was also made for the recital for men procurement measures , but it was only available for purchase in the theaters after the performances.

On the album Achterbahn by the vocal-pop group Wise Guys , released in September 2014, she sings the lead in the song Kiss me .

Jasmin Wagner turned down a lucrative offer for a one-time Blümchen appearance in Russia in 2011 because it would not have felt authentic to her at the time.

“In Russia I was offered a tempting amount of money for a Blümchen performance. But I couldn't do that, I look disguised in the clothes from back then. "

In 1996 a tribute album was released ( Für Jasmin - Das Blümchen-Remix-Album ), on which artists of the German pop scene (including Andreas Dorau , Ostzonensuppewürfelmachenkrebs , Holger Hiller ) remixed and reinterpreted songs from Blümchen's first album. According to Andreas Dorau, it was only made for the money.

Wagner has been involved in various organizations for several years, as a convinced Pesco vegetarian for PETA for over ten years . For the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society , WDCS for short, she took over a dolphin sponsorship in 2003. She also supports Hand in Hand for Children e. V., Dunkelziffer eV, the action rescue goes to school, and the Nordoff-Robbins music therapy. For the latter institute, Wagner took part in the Bravo All Stars project as Blümchen in 1998 and took part in the song Let The Music Heal Your Soul . The proceeds from the single - around 1.5 million D-Marks - went entirely to the foundation.

In 2004 Wagner suffered severe head and upper body injuries in a surfing accident in Portugal .

In 2007 she and dance partner Hendrik Höfken took fourth place in the second season of the RTL program Let's Dance and in 2019 second place in the Sat.1 program Das große Promibacken .

In 2018, Wagner was the project sponsor for the RTL donation marathon and visited the Ederhof in Austria, Europe's only rehabilitation facility for children and adolescents before and after transplants.

In 2020 she was a replacement candidate for Cathy Hummels at Schlag den Star and was defeated by Dagi Bee . Hummels canceled her participation because family members tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus .
