history
Baur Versand was founded in 1925 by the trained shoe merchant Friedrich Baur ; initially as a pure and first shoe mail order company in Germany. Burgkunstadt was shaped by the shoe industry at that time. Baur Versand was the first in Germany to introduce collective orders, in which a customer takes over parts of the distribution function and orders for others. In 1935, Baur introduced installment payments and an eight-day right of return. As a result, the mail order company expanded its range of textiles and hardware and became one of the largest mail order companies in Germany. After the death of the childless Friedrich Baur, the company was incorporated into the Friedrich Baur Foundation in 1965 .
In 1977 a Baur department store was opened in Altenkunstadt as a "hands-on catalog". It was shut down in 2012 and demolished two years later.
Baur Versand has been part of the globally active Otto Group since 1997 . The Otto Group took a 49 percent stake in Baur Versand GmbH & Co. KG and took over operational management. The Friedrich Baur Foundation holds 51 percent.
1999 started Baur with the online store baur.de in the e-commerce -Zeitalter. In the new millennium, Baur Versand has developed into a diverse group of companies that focuses on trade and services - the Baur Group. In 2001 the logistics service provider 2. HTS was founded.
In 2003 the two brands of the Otto Group in Austria, Universal and Otto, were merged under the Unito umbrella . Unito became a subsidiary of the Baur Group, which was the first to be active in neighboring countries. Also in 2003, the specialty shoe mail order company I'm walking was founded.
In 2004, the service company BFS Baur Fulfillment Solutions started operations as a specialist for the entire value chain in online and distance selling.
