Saphir was a four-piece German girl band that emerged in 2010 from the winners of the 2007–2010 years of the KI.KA- organized casting and singing competition KI.KA LIVE Best Voice . The band was founded in Erfurt (KI.KA location) and was under contract with the record company Universal Music Domestic Pop (German-speaking young artists).

history

On July 6, 2009, the final day of the Best Voice 2009 competition , the winner Lea Sofia Nikiforow first met last year's winners Jennifer haben (2007) and Kathrin Sicks (2008), who sang a duet in the accompanying program ( When you Believe ). The three singers found musical similarities and decided a little later to found a band. They were able to convince producer Joe Chialo, who had originally planned a single production with Lea Sofia Nikiforow, of their plan. Nikiforov exchanged winning the competition, a solo recording contract, for founding a band and producing an album. The name of the band, Saphir , goes back to a suggestion by Jennifer haben, who wanted to express something “valuable, unique, precious” and which stands for “diversity and uniqueness”. Since January 2010, the trio can be seen in the evening program of KI.KA LIVE . The management lacked a deeper voice as an accent in the band and so the winner of Best Voice 2010 was to become the fourth member of the band. The 12-year-old candidate Amely Sommer won the competition on April 15, 2010, becoming the fourth member of Saphir. Jennifer haben then ended her participation in the band Speed .

The founding steps and the band life are filmed by KI.KA as a docu-soap . Tom Bohne (Senior Vice President at Universal Music) made it possible for the singers to form the band. He already marketed the band Tokio Hotel .

At the beginning of 2011, the band announced, first on Facebook and later on their website in a letter to fans, that they wanted to concentrate on their solo projects in 2011. That means that the band will not appear together for the time being, but that did not announce the absolute end of the band.

Saphir plays German-speaking pop. The singers accompany themselves with musical instruments. Jennifer haben plays piano, guitar and saxophone, Lea Sofia Nikiforow plays piano and guitar, and Kathrin Sicks plays the piano. Amely Sommer plays keyboard and viola and is learning bass as a new instrument for the band . All four sing in a choir.
