Irgendwie, Irgendwo, Irgendwann is an NDW song by the German band Nena , which was first released as a single in 1984 and was also successful in the English version Anyplace, Anywhere, Anytime .

production

The German and English versions of the song were written by band members Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen and Carlo Karges and translated by Lisa Dal Bello . It was originally released as a single in 1984 and appeared on the 1985 album Feuer und Flamme . The English version, entitled Anyplace, Anywhere, Anytime , was released on the 1985 album It's All in the Game .

There is no official music video for either the German or the English version of the song. The band's appearance on the music show Bananas on September 13, 1984, which also represents the television premiere of the German-language version, comes very close to a video clip.

Remake with Kim Wilde

In 2002 Nena took the title for the album 20 Years - Nena feat. Nena up. In the new version of the song, English and German lyrics have been combined. The song was recorded with British singer Kim Wilde and released under the title Anyplace, Anywhere, Anytime . The accompanying video was shot in the London Guildhall and in and around Change Alley in London. It was a hit across the European continent but was not released in the UK. Nena and Kim Wilde appeared together several times in 2003 to promote the single on various television shows. They performed the song during Nena's concert in October 2002 in Frankfurt am Main and in December 2014 at a joint concert in the Netherlands .

Reception and chart placements

It was the last Top 10 hit Nena had in her home country until sherevivedthe song as a duet Anyplace, Anywhere, Anytime with Kim Wilde as part of her career revival in 2002.

Parodies

In March 2016, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was parodied in the song Erdowie, Erdowo, Erdogan as part of the satirical television program Extra 3 . The broadcast of the song prompted the German ambassador to Turkey , Martin Erdmann , to be summoned twice , which the media rated as an interference with the freedom of the press . Turkey's continued demand to cancel the program was ignored, as was the demand for the song to be deleted. This conflict, in turn, triggered a Streisand effect , which resulted in the video receiving millions of views and being subtitled in multiple languages, thus contributing to the Böhmermann affair .

Use in other media

  • The original German version of the song repeatedly plays a role in the television series Dark .
  • The film Somehow, Somewhere, Sometime by the Medienpädagogik Zentrum Hamburg about the situation on Hafenstrasse 1987/88 uses fragments of the song at the beginning.
  • Nena made a guest appearance in the German feature film Richy Guitar from 1984/85: At a gig in Berlin's Metropol , the band played their then-current hit Irgendwie, somewhere, sometime .
