The song comes from the album Nena and was released as a single in May 1982 . The band manager Jim Rakete had the song recorded in the Berlin Spliff studios. The record only got a lot of attention after Nena's TV appearance in the music store , was re-released with a different cover and sold around 40,000 times ad hoc. The single reached number two in the German single charts and marked the commercial breakthrough for Nena. The singer released other versions of the song throughout her career.
The single won the band's first gold record in September 1982 .

Cover version
Blümchen performed a Happy Hardcore version in 1997 , just dreaming , reaching the top 10 of the German single charts. Nena described the cover version on a talk show with Heike Makatsch as "cute".
In 2001 a cover version of the group SPN-X feat. Tim Sander & Micha Krabbe dreamed of Nur dream, which reached number 43 in the German single charts.
In March 2003 Special D. also covered the song as a hands-up version under the name Come with Me .
A cover version of Die Ärzte was first published in 2018 in the Seitenhirsch show .
