Rolf Brendel (born June 13, 1957 in Hagen ) is a German drummer . He was a member of the band Nena .

Life

Brendel was the drummer for The Stripes , and he also composed and wrote most of their songs. Despite individual appearances in well-known programs such as the record kitchen or disco , the band was not granted any great commercial success, and in 1981 the group finally separated.

Together with Nena , who had also sung with The Stripes since the end of 1977 and with whom he was dating since 1979, as well as the keyboardist Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen , the guitarist Carlo Karges and the bassist Jürgen Dehmel, he formed the band Nena from 1982. Here, too, he played a major role as a composer and lyricist on all albums until 1987.

Brendel separated from Nena in 1987 and moved to Los Angeles for two years to study drums at the Musicians Institute of Music in California . He then returned to Germany and played for various German bands as well as for the spliff drummer Herwig Mitteregger . In 2002 he took over the management of the young German artist Marlon and worked for several years in his studio in Tostedt .

Brendel lives in Cloppenburg in Lower Saxony , where he works with the rock band Peter and Rolf. In 2014 his book Nena - The story of a band was published by the Blumenbar publishing house. In it, Brendel recapitulates the early and successful years of one of the leading NDW bands. Brendel supports his memories with interviews with former companions (including Jürgen Dehmel and Jim Rakete ) and various photos.
