Blumenbar was an independent book publisher that was founded in 2002 by culture editor Wolfgang Farkas (* 1967) and publishing clerk Lars Birken-Bertsch (* 1968) in Munich and had its headquarters in Berlin from September 2009. Since March 2012, Blumenbar has been operated as an imprint of the Berlin Aufbau-Verlag .

history

Blumenbar emerged from the literary salon of the same name , which the two founders have been holding since 1997 in their apartment on Blumenstrasse in Munich and at different locations. The establishment of the Blumenbar Club , a literary and culturally interested community, played a decisive role in founding the publishing house . In the course of time, Blumenbar developed into one of the best-known and most influential labels in the younger publishing scene. From 2006 the publishing house was operated as a limited partnership . In 2008 a venture investor bought in. Blumenbar belonged to the group of independent publishers . The program with a focus on contemporary German and international literature stood for a crossover of literature, art, pop culture, club culture and socio-political issues.

At the beginning of 2012, the Blumenbar brand was sold to the Aufbau publishing group. The publishing responsibility for the newly positioned Blumenbar Verlag was taken over by René Strien, managing director of the structure, until he left. Today the publishing responsibility lies with the Aufbau publishing house manager Gunnar Cynybulk , who brought Monika Zeiner and Bov Bjerg into the publishing house.
