reception

“German son” was the subject of controversy in autumn 2010. While the Süddeutsche Zeitung raved about the “first great novel about those returning from the war of our day”, which, when we were “ripe for the cold truth”, would have to hit like a bomb, and Ingeborg Harms in the Frankfurter Allgemeine cheered a hybrid masterpiece that two Centuries after Goethe “rethinking the cosmopolitan legacy of classical music”, the Marburg literary scholar Jan Süselbeck said in the daily newspaper that “the majority [...] of the novel is filled with misogynous and racist Germania myth phantoms”: “Boy NPD voters should be able to enjoy this text at least as much as unteachable pop literature dandies. "

Eckhard Schimpf writes for the Braunschweiger Zeitung about Wallasch's “Horse meat and plastic flowers: stories and columns from the shadow economy”: “Wallasch [...] portrayed his hometown in a way that hardly anyone has done before him. He doesn’t believe in snuffling or talking nicely. He tells relentlessly, often in a slightly dirty way. But sometimes with a twinkle in the eye when he brings himself into play. ” European colleague Birgit Kelle sees the strength of this book in the author's self-reflection.
