Subway (spelling: SUBWAY) is a free city magazine that has been published in Braunschweig since 1987 by Subway Medien GmbH .
history
In addition to reports from Braunschweig and the surrounding area, Subway offers preliminary reports on current events, cinema reviews and interviews on the topics of society, sport, film and music. The service section with an event calendar, culture, film and TV tips as well as classified ads shows the leisure activities for the Braunschweig region. The volume is between 80 and 100 pages per issue. The magazine is displayed in over 300 locations (libraries, cinemas, discos, pubs, restaurants, retail outlets, public and private meeting places).
The forerunner of the magazine in Braunschweig was Downtown . In 2008 the 250th edition of the paper was published with a new logo and layout. Two sister city newspapers were published by the same publisher: (BackStage Braunschweig and indigo Wolfsburg ).
The regional court of Braunschweig decided in 2006 that the trademark and title rights of Subway Medien GmbH were older and therefore had priority over a customer magazine of the Subway fast-food chain .
At the beginning of 2007, the Lord Mayor of Brunswick , Gert Hoffmann , decreed that city institutions should avoid El Kurdi because of critical articles by columnist Hartmut El Kurdi . The German Cultural Council reprimanded this action by the city. Finally, El Kurdi left the magazine in the summer of 2007 after 12 years as a column writer. The new columnist at Subway in 2008 was the Braunschweig writer Alexander Wallasch , who ended this position with the December 2012 edition at the same time as the long-time editor-in-chief and co-editor Christian Göttner left . The publisher SUBWAY Medien GmbH filed for insolvency on May 30, 2016 under the file number 275 IN 176/16 d. The company was dissolved on July 7, 2016 after the bankruptcy was opened. The magazine continues to exist under the new publisher, oeding magazin GmbH.
