Eckhard Schimpf
Eckhard Schimpf (born July 1, 1938 in Braunschweig ) is a German journalist , author and racing driver . Until his retirement he was deputy editor-in-chief of the Braunschweiger Zeitung . He is still active as a journalist.
Life
Schimpf attended the Martino-Katharineum and the Gauss School in Braunschweig . Then he completed a traineeship at the Braunschweiger Zeitung. He worked there until 2003, including the last 14 years as a member of the chief editor. Since then he has been working as a freelance writer.
Motorsport
Schimpf's particular interest is automobile sport and classic cars . Initially, from 1955, he was Kurt Ahrens senior's rally co-driver . and Kurt Ahrens jr. , Günther Isenbügel and Richard Trenkel . Later he drove himself. By 1985 he had competed in around 350 competitions, including 250 races across Europe. He achieved his greatest successes in the 1000 km race on the Nürburgring as part of the sports car world championship . He competed there ten times. In 1976 , together with Edgar Dören , he won the group 5 to 3 liter displacement in the Porsche 911 Carrera RSR and was seventh in the overall classification, in 1979 with Hans-Georg Bürger in a BMW 320i again class winner in group 5 and sixth in the overall standings, and in 1982 - also on BMW - with Mario Ketterer and Anton Fischhaber fourth in the overall ranking.
Eckhard Schimpf also achieved class wins in the six-hour race at the Nürburgring in 1960 (on DKW) and 1969 (on Abarth) and also in many hill climbs (such as Trento Bondone, Bozen-Mendelpass, Copa Sila Cosenza, Ampus, Freiburg Schauinsland). In 1980 and 1981 he finished sixth in the overall ranking of the European Hill Climbing Championship , although he was unable to take part in all championship runs of a year because of his work as a journalist. In his own words he was “never a rally friend and an ambitious rally driver”; Nevertheless, he took part in the Monte Carlo Rally four times (1971, 1972, 1973 and 1978) , but only crossed the finish line at the last start in a VW factory Golf Diesel.
In 1985 he ended his active career as a motor sportsman.
Still Eckhard Schimpf's rapporteur at classic events such as the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este on Lake Como or the Concours d'Elegance in Pebble Beach , major motor shows in Frankfurt , Geneva , Detroit , Los Angeles and Tokyo working . Brunswick history
Schimpf has authored numerous books on automotive and motorsport topics as well as the history of the city of Braunschweig . His two Klinterklater books together sold over 70,000 times. Schimpf's maternal grandfather was the founder of the Mast-Jägermeister company . From 1972 to 2000, Schimpf himself was also the manager of the liqueur manufacturer's sponsorship activities in the automotive sector as “Jägermeister's man on the racetracks”.
In 2007, Eckhard Schimpf began to put together a collection of the most important vehicles from Jägermeister Racing in Braunschweig. Among them is a 1974 Porsche RSR, which was sold to San Francisco in the early 1980s. Schimpf and his son Oliver managed to get the car back. It is the Porsche with which he took part in four 1000 km races at the Nürburgring.
Honor
In February 2011 Schimpf was awarded the 2nd prize of the Göttingen Alexander Foundation for his portrait of Hans Eckensberger , founder, publisher and editor-in-chief of the Braunschweiger Zeitung.

- ↑ The engine of the Porsche Carrera RSR from 1974 was an air-cooled six-cylinder with 2993 cc in the rear of the car. The oil cooler was built into the front of the car. In the initial version with a compression of 10.3: 1, 315 hp were achieved at 8000 rpm, in 1975 the output rose to 330 hp; the maximum torque of 295 Nm was reached at 6500 rpm. The car weighed about 920 kg without fuel.
