Mario Ketterer (* 1950 in Eichstetten , near Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German entrepreneur and former racing driver. From 2008 to 2012 Ketterer started with a Swiss license.

Career

During his apprenticeship, Ketterer drove his first hill climb at the ADAC Schauinsland race in 1969 at the age of 19 . Three years later he won 22 of 25 hill climbs in his class in an Opel Ascona. In 1975 he reached third place in the German Mountain Championship. In 1978 he won all 15 races of the German Sports Car Championship and was German champion by a large margin. In the last race on the Schauinsland route on July 9, 1979 with his Cassani-Ralt-BMW Formula 2, Ketterer set a course record. He drove the 11.2-kilometer route on Freiburg's local mountain in 4: 59.20 minutes and beat his record from the previous year, which he had achieved in a TOJ-SC-206 sports car with 5: 01.21 minutes. These record runs are part of the history of the route, as no more time ratings were held on the historic hill climb route afterwards.

Mario Ketterer was not only successful in hill climbs, he also fought tough duels in the German racing championship. Drivers like Manfred Winkelhock , Hans Heyer or Harald Ertl were among Ketterer's biggest opponents.

In 1979 , Ketterer was the overall winner of the brand world championship run together with Reinhold Joest and Volkert Merl at the wheel of a Porsche 908 Turbo-Spyder at the 1000 km race in Dijon . In the early 1980s he drove successfully for Renault Suisse in vehicles such as Renault 5 Turbo, Renault Alpine V6 and Renault Clio in races for the Renault European Cup and the Swiss Championship. He achieved third place in the 6-hour race in Mugello in 1981 in a BMW 320i Group 5 from GS-Tuning with Anton Fischhaber and fourth place in the 1000 km race at the Nürburgring in 1982 in a BMW 320i Group 5 with Anton Fischhaber and Eckhard Schimpf . In 1984 Ketterer drove four races in the DTM season for the Swiss team Brun Motorsport in a BMW 635 CSi.

In 1998 Ketterer drove in the Porsche Carrera Cup for the first time . The vehicle was used by the Eichin Racing Team from Freiburg .

Since 1999 Ketterer drove in the Veedol long distance cup , which then became known as the BF Goodrich long distance championship. This was followed by victories in the endurance cup at the Nürburgring with BMW and Porsche and in the Paul Ricard 24-hour race .

In 2003, Ketterer was class winner at the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring in a Volvo S60 from the Mühlner Motorsport team and tenth in the overall classification. In 2010 he started for the Rent2Drive Racing Team and came in second in the 24-hour race on a BMW M3 and in first place in the BF-Goodrich long-distance race.

In 2013, Mario Ketterer announced that he was leaving active motorsport at the age of 62. He has been an entrepreneur in the real estate industry since 1978.
