Mühlner Motorsport is a Belgian motorsport team that is active in the Gran Turismo sector and took part in the 2012 FIA GT1 World Championship (as Exim Bank Team China ). The team has a close connection to the automobile manufacturer Porsche and is also active as a parts supplier and service provider in motorsport.

Beginnings with Opel and Volvo

Mühlner Motorsport started using Opel vehicles in endurance racing in 1989 . The greatest successes of this time are winning the team classification of the FIA sanctioned SERIE INTERNATIONAL GROUP N 1996 as well as the driver’s classification in 1996 and 1997 and the driver and team classification of the VLN endurance championship Nürburgring in 1997. From the end of 2001 onwards, Mühlner Motorsport developed a racing version of the Volvo S60 that were used by Mühlner Motorsport itself up to and including 2004 and then by customer teams.

Gran Turismo

From 2004, Mühlner Motorsport started using Porsche brands in various national and international GT championships and endurance races. These include the FIA GT3 European Championship , the ADAC GT Masters , the VLN Endurance Championship Nürburgring and the Porsche Supercup . The team was also present and successful in endurance races, such as the 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps , the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring or the 24-hour race at Daytona . From 2008 used the Mühlner Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 Cup S and from 2010 the Porsche 997 GT3 R . In 2012 the team started a race of the ADAC GT Masters with a Chevrolet Camaro GT , which was driven by Oliver Gavin and Roland Asch .

FIA GT1 World Championship

In 2012 Mühlner Motorsport was responsible for the deployment of two Porsche 997 GT3 Rs in the FIA GT1 World Championship . The series promoter SRO initiated this commitment in order to increase the number of vehicles for the championship to the necessary minimum. The team started with the involvement of the main Chinese sponsor as Exim Bank Team China . After the fifth race of the season, Mühlner Motorsport no longer competed in the FIA GT1 World Championship because the Exim Bank had withdrawn financially after the race in China was canceled.

Benjamin Lariche competed at Mühlner Motorsport with three different partners: Ren Wei , Dino Lunardi and Andreas Zuber . However, none of these pairings was able to achieve points - also because the vehicle could not start in four races due to technical problems. Frenchman Mike Parisy and New Zealander Matt Halliday shared a vehicle for four race weekends and together achieved third place in the qualifying race and a victory in the main race in Zolder . Parisy drove his last race at Mühlner Motorsport together with Andreas Zuber at the event in Portugal .
