Matt Halliday

Matthew "Matt" Halliday (born July 14, 1979 in Auckland ) is a New Zealand racing driver .

Career

Halliday began his motorsport career in karting in 1985 , where he was active until 1997. In 1998 he moved into the single-seater racing and was fourth in the New Zealand Formula Ford . In 1999 he switched to Formula Holden and stayed in this championship for two years. He finished both seasons in third place in the drivers' championship. After competing in New Zealand's Formula Ford again, he moved to North America in 2001 and competed in Indy Lights . With two podium finishes, he finished his first season in sixth place overall. In addition, he entered a race in the Atlantic Championship . In 2002 he was not given a cockpit for a full season and only took part in two races of the Indy Lights, which had been renamed the IRL Infinity Pro Series for that season. He finished 17th overall.

In 2003 the New Zealander moved to Europe and finished eighth in the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup with two podium finishes . Afterwards Halliday did not find a cockpit in formula racing and competed in individual races in the Australian Porsche Carrera Cup and in the Australian V8 Supercar Championship. He was also runner-up in the Porsche GT3 Cup Trans-Tasman . In 2005 he was first runner-up in the Battery Town Porsche GT3 Cup and then took part in two races in the Australian V8 Supercar Championship .

In the winter of 2005/2006 Halliday was active in two championships. He started again in the Battery Town Porsche GT3 Cup and this time came third. He also competed for the New Zealand team in the first season of the A1 Grand Prix . A third place at the season opener remained his best result. He then found another cockpit in formula racing and competed in the Asian Formula Renault V6. With two wins he was runner-up behind Karun Chandhok . In winter 2006/2007 he was again third in the Battery Town Porsche GT3 Cup. He also took part in several A1 Grand Prix races again. His best results this season were two third places. He then competed in the first three races of the 2007 season in the Champ Car for Conquest Racing . He was then replaced by Jan Heylen . In the overall ranking he was 21.

In 2008 he moved to the New Zealand Toyota Racing Series and was 15th overall with five podium finishes. He also finished eleventh in the Battery Town Porsche GT3 Cup. In 2009 Halliday switched to the Porsche Supercup . Although he did not compete in every race, he finished seventh in the drivers' standings with two third places. After finishing fourth in the Battery Town Porsche GT3 Cup in winter 2009/2010, he returned to the Porsche Supercup. Halliday finished his second season in 13th place overall. In 2011 he only took part in two races of the Porsche Supercup and also made a guest start in the series. He was 18th in the drivers' championship.

2012 Halliday drove for by Mühlner Motorsport supervised Exim Bank Team China a Porsche 997 GT3 R in the FIA GT1 World Championship . After the cancellation of the races in China, the sponsor Exim Bank China withdrew, so that Mühlner left the series prematurely. Together with Mike Parisy he achieved a third place and a victory in Zolder and was 16th in the drivers' championship.
