Anton "Tony" Fischhaber (born October 12, 1940 in Bad Tölz ) is a former German automobile racing driver .

Career

Fischhaber was one of the most successful hill climbers of the 1960s. When the then 18-year-old wanted to start his first hill climb in 1958, he was rejected by the organizers as too young for this sport. Almost a decade later, he had won three European mountain championships and the German mountain championship once.

He began his career in 1960 in a BMW 700 and one year later he celebrated his first race win in a GT race at the Norisring in an Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ . In the mid-1960s he became a works driver at Porsche and won the European championship for the works team in 1967 (GT), 1972 and 1973 (production car). With 19 participations between 1962 and 1983 he is a record starter in the 1000 km race on the Nürburgring . His best placement was fourth overall in 1982 , together with Mario Ketterer and Eckhard Schimpf in a BMW 320i . He achieved a special achievement in the 1978 race , when he had to drive the entire race alone due to an illness of his teammate Romain Feitler and finished tenth at the end of the race.

It is worth mentioning the fifth overall place in the 24-hour race of Le Mans in 1965 , together with Gerhard Koch in a Porsche 904 GTS . After his racing career ended in 1988, he devoted himself to real estate trading and became an official at EC Bad Tölz .
