1000 km race on the Nürburgring in 1980
The 26th 1000 km race on the Nürburgring , also 1000 km Nürburgring, Nürburgring Nordschleife , took place on May 25, 1980 and was the sixth round of the sports car world championship of that year.
The race
The organizer received 103 entries for the sixth sports car world championship round of the season. Ultimately, 74 racing cars took up the race. From the pole position went Rolf Stommelen into the race. In practice on his Porsche 908/4 Turbo, he achieved a time of 7: 26,000 minutes on his fastest lap and was thus more than a second faster than his brand colleague Bob Wollek in the Porsche 935/80 .
After a race distance of 1004.740 km, the two German racing drivers Rolf Stommelen and Jürgen Barth were flagged as winners.
