1000 km race on the Nürburgring 2007
The 41st 1000 km race on the Nürburgring , also ADAC Internationales 1000KM-Rennen, Nürburgring , took place on July 1, 2007 on the Nürburgring and was the third valuation run of the Le Mans Series of this year.
Before the race
When the Sports Car World Championship was launched in 1953 by the Commission Sportive Internationale , the 1000 km race on the Nürburgring was one of the championship races. Alberto Ascari and Giuseppe Farina won on a plant - Ferrari 375 MM Vignale . The duo had to cover 44 laps on the Nordschleife in order to achieve the necessary 1000 kilometers, which were stipulated as the race distance. This took them 8:20:44,000 hours. This endurance race quickly established itself as one of the most traditional sports car races . By the end of the sports car world championship in 1992 , the race had been held 34 times - with different race distances. The last world championship run was in 1991 over a distance of 430 kilometers and ended with the overall victory of David Brabham and Derek Warwick in the Jaguar XJR-14 .
After nearly a decade of absence, the 2000 race returned to the international racing calendar as part of the American Le Mans Series . In 2007 it was part of the European Le Mans Series for the fourth time in a row .
The race
With the factory Peugeot 908 HDi FAP , there was a Le Mans prototype superior to the competition in 2007 . Similar to the Audi R10 TDI , this racing car was powered by a diesel engine. In practice, Marc Gené achieved the fastest lap time in the number 7 Peugeot. With 1: 41.867 minutes he was 0.3 seconds faster than his teammate Pedro Lamy in the car with the number 8. The gap to the third-placed vehicle - Tom Chilton in the Zytek 07S - was already three seconds.
The two Peugeots dominated the race from the start. Pedro Lamy and Stéphane Sarrazin in the car with the number 8 turned out to be the faster team over the course of the race and continuously set themselves apart from team-mates Gené and Nicolas Minassian . At the finish line, they had achieved a lead of 56 seconds after a driving time of almost six hours. In third place was the Courage LC70 driven by Jean-Marc Gounon and Guillaume Moreau for a long time . Almost halfway through the race, Emmanuel Collard and Jean-Christophe Boullion's Pescarolo Sport 07 took this position and held it until the end of the race. Thomas Erdos and Mike Newton won the LMP2 class in the RML -MG-Lola EX264. In the GT1 class, Stéphane Ortelli and Soheil Ayari remained successful in the Saleen S7-R registered by Oreca . The race in the small GT class was unspectacular. Rob Bell and Allan Simonsen led from start to finish.
