Hayanari Shimoda
Hayanari Shimoda ( Japanese 下田 隼 成 , Shimoda Hayanari ; born July 16, 1984 in Tokyo ) is a Japanese racing driver .
Monoposto
Shimoda started his career in karting and came to Europe in 2001 to contest a season in the Italian Formula Renault championship . In 2002 he drove in the Japanese GT championship as well as in the European and British Formula Renault championships. Shimoda stayed in Formula Renault for a long time; he did not want to make the leap to a higher monoposto class. For the Super Nova team a commitment in the GP2 series was planned in 2005 . The team, however, replaced Shimoda with Adam Carroll before the first race . Shimoda then drove a few races for the A1 Team Japan , but the countable results were also missing here; Shimoda was more noticeable through accidents and collisions.
2006 Shimoda was able to secure a cockpit place in the Formula Renault 3.5 . He drove all races for Team Victory up to the last race weekend, but could not achieve any notable successes and ended up in 23rd place overall.
Sports car
Shimoda is much more successful in sports cars . For Zytek he won the 1000 km races on the Nürburgring and the 1000 km of Spa in the Le Mans Series 2005 and finished the season with third place overall. In 2007 he drove again in the Le Mans Series, this time for the Arena International team. In the overall ranking, however, he was only 31.
In the American Le Mans Series , Shimoda has so far achieved one victory at Laguna Seca (2005). In 2007 he started again in this race, but only finished 10th.
The 24 Hours of Le Mans he was twice so far at the start. In 2003 on a DBA, including with John Nielsen as a partner, he achieved his only place on the Sarthe with rank 23. In 2004 he was on the Zytek team to strengthen David Brabham and Andy Wallace . The fast, but unreliable prototype failed with engine failure just before half-time.
