The A1 Team Japan ( English stylization: A1Team.Japan ) was the Japanese national team in the A1GP series.
history
The founder of A1 Team Japan is unknown; The British team Carlin Motorsport acted as racing team .
In the first season the team was below average. After it was able to score its first points with eighth place in the main race at Brands Hatch by Ryō Fukuda, two more points followed on the second race weekend at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz with tenth place in the sprint and ninth place in the main race by Hideki Noda . It did not take part in the race weekend in Estoril because Fukuda and Noda were unable to attend due to races in Formula Renault 3.5 and Formula Nippon and a replacement driver was not determined in time. In Eastern Creek , the team caused a sensation with a horror accident in the main race. The car piloted by Hayanari Shimoda came off the track for an unexplained reason in the first quick left turn after start / finish, overturned, missed the tire wall and hit a concrete wall with the airbox first. Although it broke into two parts in the impact between the engine and the monocoque and the roll bar was destroyed, Shimoda was virtually uninjured. This accident is the worst in the A1GP series. The team did not take part on the race weekend in Durban because no replacement could be found for Shimoda, whose contract had expired at this point. But on the following race weekend in Sentul he started again and achieved the fourth point result for the Japanese with ninth place in the sprint race. The team was again absent on the last two race weekends in Laguna Seca and Shanghai . It ended the season in 21st place overall with eight points.
In the second season , the team did not appear again.
A1 Team Japan took part in seven A1GP series racing weekends.
