The A1 Team Canada ( English stylization: A1Team.Canada ) was the Canadian national team in the A1GP series.
history
A1 Team Canada was founded by Wade Cherwayko ; The British team John Village Automotive acted as racing team in the first two seasons and then the Irish Team Status Grand Prix .
In the first season the team was mediocre. After the main race in ninth place at Brands Hatch by Sean McIntosh was able to achieve his first points, followed by third place in the main race at the Euro Speedway Lausitz , the first podium finish. The highlight of the season was the victory in the main race in Sentul , in which McIntosh started from 23rd and last place on the grid. He managed to catch up with it, which is unique in A1GP history. The team finished the season in tenth place with 59 points.
In the following season it was unchanged. The new regular driver James Hinchcliffe achieved second place in the sprint race in Brno , in the following main race he was in the lead for a long time until he collided with Alex Yoong during an overtaking maneuver by the Malaysian team and fell back to fifth. The team achieved no more podium finishes, it ended the season in eleventh place overall with 33 points.
In the third season , the team was able to improve slightly. After three podium results (one second and two third places) there was finally a victory in the sprint race in Durban , which was preceded by the first pole position in the team's history. In all cases the driver was Robert Wickens . After another podium finish, a second place in the sprint race in Shanghai, the team ended the season in ninth overall position with 75 points.
In the fourth season , the team was officially listed, for example in the championship table, but did not compete.
A1 Team Canada took part in 32 race weekends of the A1GP series.
