The A1 Team South Africa ( English stylization: A1Team.South Africa ) was the South African national team in the A1GP series.
history
The A1 Team South Africa was founded by Tokyo Sexwale ; The Spanish team BCN Competición acted as racing team in the first season and since then the French team DAMS (which has been competing under the name "Connor Racing" since the fourth season).
In the first season the team was below average; it was able to achieve its first points with a sixth place in the main race at Brands Hatch by Stephen Simpson . This was followed by three more points in the course of the season, including the first podium with a third place in the main race in Dubai for Simpson. The team finished the season in 17th place with 20 points.
In the following season , the team was able to improve a little. Already in the sprint race of the opening weekend in Zandvoort he achieved his first victory with Adrian Zaugg at the wheel, after he had previously achieved the first pole position . Over the course of the season, the team was mostly unable to match this performance - the race weekend in Mexico City was an exception , when Zaugg was fourth in the sprint race and third in the main race. It ended the season in 14th place overall with 24 points.
In the third season , the team with Adrian Zaugg was able to establish itself as a regular driver at the top. A victory and a second place at the opening weekend in Zandvoort was followed by another podium result with a third place in the sprint race in Zhuhai . In the main race in Eastern Creek , Adrian Zaugg achieved the second success of the season in rainy conditions, and there were also regular placements in the points. The team ended the season in fifth overall position with 96 points.
In the fourth season , the team fell back to the level of the first two years. Although Zaugg was able to achieve a total of six point results, including two fifth places in the sprint race in Chengdu and in the main race in Sepang , it did not achieve more than 14th overall with 19 points.
The A1 Team South Africa participated in all 39 race weekends of the A1GP series.
driver
A1 Team South Africa fielded eight different drivers on race weekends, four of whom also took part in the races themselves. Marc Murray was also given the opportunity to test an A1GP car at a rookie test in Snetterton before the 2007/2008 season .
