history

Formula Nissan

The team was founded in 2002 and initially started in Formula Nissan with drivers Andrea Belicchi and Carlos Martin .

Formula 3000

In 2003 the team competed for the first time in the international Formula 3000 championship , the predecessor racing series of the GP2 series . This year the team was known for the possibility of renting a cockpit seat. Drivers for the 2003 season were Wil Langhorne , Giovanni Berton , Valerio Scassellati , Alessandro Piccolo , Ferdinando Monfardini , Rob Nguyen and Marc Hynes . In the absence of a financially strong sponsor, the team suffered permanent financial difficulties. In the team ranking, it came last.

In the 2004 Formula 3000 season, the team competed with the experienced racing driver Enrico Toccacelo and the Argentine driver Esteban Guerrieri . Success soon set in: Toccacelo won the race at the Nürburgring and at the end of the season the team achieved second place in the overall standings behind Arden International with 84 points .

GP2 series

After the successful year 2004, the team was one of the favorites in the GP2 series that started in 2005 . It competed with the Venezuelan Ernesto Viso and the Japanese Hiroki Yoshimoto and hoped for some wins and numerous points. In fact, however, the team failed to secure its position among the top teams. With just 35 points, BCN Competición only finished ninth at the end of the season.

Even in the second year of the GP2 series, the team failed to build on previous successes. At Yoshimoto's side, Timo Glock came first as the second driver. After Glock switched to the iSport International team , Luca Filippi took their place. The team finished ninth overall with 22 points.

The team began the 2007 GP2 series with Formula 1 driver Sakon Yamamoto and last year's winner of German Formula 3 , Ho-Pin Tung . After Yamamoto had switched to Formula 1 Team Spyker during the season , the Finn Markus Niemelä took his place. He drove the rest of the season with the exception of the races in Budapest , where Henri Karjalainen was in the cockpit. The season went very badly, in the end the team was 13th and last in the overall standings with only 4 points.

The GP2 series in 2008 of the GP2 series began with Paolo Maria Nocera and Miloš Pavlović . After the first race weekend, the Spaniard Adrián Vallés took the place of Nocera. At the fourth race weekend in Magny-Cours , Pavlovic was replaced by the Brazilian Carlos Iaconelli . At the end of the season only the 12th and penultimate place was on the books.

In the GP2 Asia series , which was held for the first time in 2008 , the team started with Ivan Pavlovic and Jason Tahincioğlu . The 2008 season ended in twelfth place in the team standings with only 6 points. In the 2008/2009 season , Hiroki Yoshimoto and Luca Filippi drove for BCN in the Asia series. Due to the sale of BCN Competición, the team took part in a GP2 race in Shanghai for the last time .

A1 Grand Prix

In the 2005/2006 season, the team provided the racing team for A1 Team South Africa in the A1 Grand Prix series.
