The A1 Team Malaysia ( English stylization: A1Team.Malaysia ) was the Malaysian national team in the A1GP series.
history
A1 Team Malaysia was founded by former Formula 1 driver Alex Yoong , and A1 Team Malaysia Sdn Bhd acted as Seatholder from the fourth season ; the team used its own racing team from the start.
In the first season the team was one of the strongest. Already on the premiere race weekend at Brands Hatch it was able to score its first points with fifth place in the main race by Alex Yoong, and numerous other points followed. It celebrated its first podium with second place in the main race in Sentul . The team experienced by far the most successful race weekend of the season in Shanghai , where Alex Yoong finished the sprint race as winner and the main race in second. It finished the season in fifth place with 74 points.
The following season was unchanged for the team. At the second race weekend in Brno , the team achieved a double victory with Yoong at the wheel, and another victory in the sprint race in Mexico City . However, there were no further placements on the podium. The team finished the season in sixth place overall with 55 points.
In the third season , the team experienced a sharp drop in performance. There were six points, including fourth place in the main race in Shanghai by Alex Yoong as the best result, and ended the season in 15th overall position with 25 points.
In the fourth season , the team was back to the level of the first two years. With a victory in the sprint and a second place in the main race at Zandvoort by Fairuz Fauzy , the new season started very successfully. This was followed by another podium position with a third place in the Portimão main race. The team finished the season in sixth place overall with 43 points.
A1 Team Malaysia took part in all 39 race weekends of the A1GP series.
