The A1 Team India ( English stylization: A1Team.India ) was the Indian national team in the A1GP series.

history

A1 Team India in Kyalami 2009

A1 Team India was founded by Atul Gupta , who was replaced as Seatholder in the second season by Yohann Setna , in the third season by Ravi Chilukuri and in the fourth season by a consortium called A1 Team India Limited ; Akbar Ebrahim acted as racing team in the first season , the British team Arena Motorsport and then the British team Argo Racing in the second and third seasons .

In the first season the team was one of the backbenchers, the best result is an eleventh place by regular driver Armaan Ebrahim in the sprint race in Sepang . The team did not compete on the last three race weekends due to internal quarrels and ended the season in 23rd place without a point.

In the following season , it didn't look like an improvement at first. After five race weekends without winning points, Armaan Ebrahim was replaced by the former Formula 1 driver Narain Karthikeyan , who was able to score the first points for the team in seventh place in the main race in Taupo . This was followed by two more points with a ninth place in the main race in Durban and a fourth place in the main race at Brands Hatch . The team finished the season in 16th place overall with 13 points.

The final breakthrough came in the third season . After several points results, the team with Karthikeyan as regular driver was able to celebrate its first victory in the main race in Zhuhai . There were no further podium finishes at first, but first place was achieved again in the main race at Brands Hatch. The team finished the season in tenth overall position with 61 points.

At the start of the fourth season , the team had to pass due to the chassis delivery problems. In the remaining race weekends, five points followed, including the highlight of a second place by Karthikeyan in the sprint race at Brands Hatch. The team finished the season in twelfth place overall with 19 points.

A1 Team India took part in 35 race weekends of the A1GP series.
