The A1 Team Great Britain ( English stylization: A1Team.Great Britain ) was the British national team in the A1GP series. It was third in the championship in the 2005/2006 , 2006/2007 and 2007/2008 seasons.

history

A1 Team Great Britain in Kyalami 2009

A1 Team Great Britain was founded by Tony Clements and John Surtees , Formula 1 world champions from 1964 - the latter, however, withdrew from his business at the beginning of the third season, as he wanted to take care of the racing career of his son Henry ; The British Arden International team acted as the racing team in the first season , and has been using its own team since then.

In the first season , the British were among the top teams. Already in the main race of the premiere race weekend at Brands Hatch , a victory was within reach, but a technical defect forced the team to give up while in the lead. The first podium was finally achieved at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz with second place in the main race by Robbie Kerr , followed by a further seven podium positions (four second and two third places by Robbie Kerr and a third place by Darren Manning ). It ended the season in third place with 97 points.

In the following season , the team was able to maintain its position. After five podium places (two second places by Oliver Jarvis as well as two second and one third places by Robbie Kerr) Oliver Jarvis finally achieved the first victory for the British in the main race at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez . On the following race weekend in Shanghai Robbie Kerr celebrated a victory (in the sprint race), followed by a second place in the main race. He repeated this result at Brands Hatch, whereby the victory in the sprint race is particularly important, as the British were the first nation to achieve a victory in a home race. The team finished the season again in third overall with 92 points.

In the third season the team was again one of the best. It was able to achieve two victories - one in the main race in Zandvoort by Oliver Jarvis and one in the sprint race at Brands Hatch by Robbie Kerr - as well as another 6 podium positions (three second places by Jarvis and two second and one third places by Kerr). In the end, the third place overall was again, this time with 126 points.

The team had to skip the first race weekend of the fourth season due to the chassis delivery problems. On his return to Chengdu , Danny Watts immediately took two second places. Three more points resulted in the tenth overall position with 28 points.

A1 Team Great Britain took part in 38 race weekends of the A1GP series.
