The A1 Team Mexico ( English stylization: A1Team.Mexico ) was the Mexican national team in the A1GP series.
history
The A1 Team Mexico was founded by Juan Cortina and Julio Jáuregui , in the fourth season José Ramón Elizondo was added as a Seatholder; The French team DAMS acted as racing team in the first two seasons , the British Teamcraft in the third season and then the Spanish Escudería del Mediterráneo .
In the first season the team was mediocre. After a sixth place in the sprint race at Brands Hatch by Salvador Durán and thus the first point placement, it was able to achieve the first podium with third place in the main race. Another highlight of the season was third place in the sprint race in Sentul , which was also achieved by Durán. The team offered the strongest performance of the season with a one-two at Laguna Seca , driver was again Durán. After another podium finish - a third place at the last race weekend in Shanghai - the team finished the season in eleventh place with 59 points.
In the following season it was unchanged. A second place in the sprint race of the opening weekend in Zandvoort was followed by a third place in the main race in Brno . With another podium finish, a second place in the sprint race in Beijing , the team briefly took over the championship lead. The team was able to celebrate another second place in the sprint race in Sentul. After a dry spell of six racing weekends in a row without a place in the points (the team scored the only point with the fastest race lap at the home race at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez ), the team finished the season in tenth place overall with 35 points.
In the third season the team slipped into the back of the field. After Salvador Durán had made a good start with two fourth places in Zandvoort, the team was only able to achieve two more points with Davíd Garza as driver. It finally ended the season in 16th overall position with 22 points.
At the opening weekend of the fourth season , the team was forced to watch due to the chassis delivery problems. Four race weekends followed without a single point result, until Durán finally achieved the first in the main race in Portimão with fourth place. Two more followed at Brands Hatch, including a third place in the sprint race. The team finished the season in 13th place overall with 19 points.
A1 Team Mexico took part in 38 race weekends of the A1GP series.
driver
A1 Team Mexico fielded eight different drivers on race weekends, all of whom also took part in the races themselves. In addition, Memo Rojas was used in the official test at Silverstone in 2005 and Mario Domínguez in the official test in 2006 . It was followed by Alfonso "Picho" Toledano and Arturo González in the first official test in 2007 and Esteban Gutiérrez in the second.
