Mario Domínguez
Mario Domínguez (born December 1, 1975 in Mexico City , Mexico ) is a Mexican racing car driver . He currently drives for Pacific Coast Motorsports in the IndyCar Series , having previously been active in the ChampCar series for a long time .
Career
Domínguez made his first appearance in the ChampCar series in 2002 for the Herdes Competition team , with whom he stayed until 2004. During this time he was able to win two races, in 2002 in Surfers Paradise a race dominated by a very long savety car phase and in 2003 in Downtown Miami . In 2002 he was also Rookie of the Year . For the 2005 season he moved to Forsythe Racing , but outstanding successes failed to materialize. During the 2006 season he was fired from the team after colliding twice with teammate Paul Tracy at the start and went to Dale Coyne Racing . For the last three races of the season he was able to get a place at Rocketsports thanks to sponsorship from Pemex .
His activities in the 2007 season are indicative of the chaotic final season of the ChampCars. He drove the first three races again for Forsythe, where he was then replaced by Oriol Servià . He then stayed four races without a job, then there was one job each for PKV Racing to replace the injured Tristan Gommendy and for Pacific Coast Motorsports (PCM) to replace Ryan Dalziel . There was another assignment for Minardi Team USA as a replacement for the suspended Dan Clarke . For the last two races, including one in Mexico City, he again drove for PCM.
For the 2008 season he should also start in for PCM. However, since the season did not come to pass, PCM initially decided not to race any further. However, two cars were at the start at the ChampCar farewell in Long Beach , one of which was driven by Domínguez, who took third place. Starting with the Indy 500, the team now wants to contest the entire IndyCar season with a car sponsored by Visit Mexico City . However, the Indy 500 could not qualify because Domínguez hit the wall on the second lap - the first lap was still one of the fastest ever driven on the qualifying day. With the race on the Milwaukee Mile , the team then entered as the 27th permanent participant. The pit lane, which was actually only designed for 26 vehicles, was specially adapted. So far, however, the team has had serious problems keeping up with the speed in the ovals.
