Ryan Dalziel [ diːˈɛl ] (born April 12, 1982 in Coatbridge , North Lanarkshire , Scotland ) is a British racing driver .

Career

Dalziel began his motorsport career in karting in 1992 and was active in this sport until 1998. In 1999 he switched to the single-seater racing and was immediately runner-up of the British Formula Vauxhall behind Gary Paffett . In 2000 he competed in the British Formula Renault . Dalziel won a race and was runner-up behind Kimi Raikkonen with 260 to 316 points . In 2001 the racing driver competed for various teams in the British Formula 3 championship . With a fourth place as the best result, he ended the season in 13th place in the drivers' standings.

In 2002 Dalziel left Europe and started in the Atlantic Championship . He started for two teams and ended the season with two second places as the best results in eighth place overall. In 2003, Dalziel stayed in the Atlantic Championship and competed for Sierra Sierra Racing . The Brit won two races and was only defeated by AJ Allmendinger at the end of the season . In 2004 he played his third season in the championship for Sierra Sierra Racing. This season he won four races and was runner-up again. This time Jon Fogarty won the championship.

In 2005, Dalziel competed in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). With a podium placement, he was ninth in the GTS classification. He also took part in a race in the Grand-Am Sports Car Series . In formula racing , the Brit made his champ car debut for Dale Coyne Racing this season . In the drivers' championship he finished 23rd. 2006 Dalziel entered only in the Grand-Am Sports Car Series and was 16th in the DP standings. In 2007 Dalziel returned to the Champ Car and competed for Pacific Coast Motorsports . With a seventh place as the best result, Dalziel finished 14th overall. He also took part in four races of the Grand-Am Sports Car Series and was 33rd in the DP standings.

2008 Dalziel took part in the first season of the Superleague Formula for the Alan Docking Racing team of the Glasgow Rangers . He contested five out of six race weekends and achieved fifth place as the best result. He also took part again in the Grand-Am Sports Car Series and won his first race in this series. He finished the season in 27th place in the DP rankings. In 2009 he finished 23rd in the DP ranking of the Grand-Am Sports Car Series. In 2010 the Briton won another race in the Grand-Am Sports Car Series and was seventh in the DP standings. He also took part in two ALMS races and the Le Mans 24-hour race .
