Silverstone 6 Hours 2012
The 6 Hours of Silverstone 2012 , also 6 Hours of Silverstone, Silverstone , took place on August 25th at the Silverstone Circuit and was the fourth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship this year.
The race
Originally, the first race of the Toyota TS030 Hybrid was planned for the 6-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps , but a test accident prevented its use. The racing debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans took place with two cars , where both cars had to retire. At Silverstone, Toyota only entered an LMP1 vehicle driven by Alexander Wurz , Nicolas Lapierre and Kazuki Nakajima . After finishing third in training, a duel between the Toyota and the Audi R18 e-tron quattro developed by André Lotterer , Benoît Tréluyer and Marcel Fässler .
Immediately after the start, Nicolas Lapierre was able to make up a place in the Toyota and finally take the lead on the eleventh lap. Due to the higher consumption of the TS030 Hybrid, it had to pit earlier than the two R18s, which means that the lead in the course of the race - due to the staggered pit stops - constantly switched between the Audi R18 e-tron quattro and the Toyota. In addition, one more fuel stop was necessary for the Toyota than for the two Audis. After a race without incident, the Audi R18 e-tron quattro won with a lead of almost a minute over the Audi.
There was a close race in the LMP2 class. After six hours of driving, John Martin , Tor Graves and Jan Charouz won in the Oreca 03 with a lead of 6 seconds over the HPD ARX-03b run by Vicente Potolicchio , Ryan Dalziel and Stéphane Sarrazin .
Giancarlo Fisichella and Gianmaria Bruni in the Ferrari 458 Italia stayed in the GTE Pro class . A Ferrari 458 Italia also took first place in the GTE-Am class. Marco Cioci , Matt Griffin and Piergiuseppe Perazzini drove the Waltrip car .
