Fabien Giroix (born September 17, 1960 ) is a French racing driver .

Career

Fabien Giroix drove in the European Touring Car Championship from 1984 to 1988 with BMW models such as the 635 CSi or later the M3 . In 1987 he became French touring car champion. Before that, he had the opportunity to start a monoposto career in the David Price team in 1986 in Formula 3 on a Reynard 863 Alfa Romeo , which then took the 17th place in the 1988 Formula 3000 European Championship with a Lola T88 / 50 Cosworth . Overall rank ended.

In 1989 BMW offered to take part in a full DTM season. Giroix had already achieved a victory in an Alpina BMW M3 during a brief guest appearance there in the 1987 season. After leading the championship for a long time with his Schnitzer -BMW-M3 and winning the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring , he finished third overall at the end of the 1989 season . In 1990 he and the Schnitzer team took ninth place in the DTM and won the 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps . In 1991 Giroix changed brand and team in the DTM, from BMW to Mercedes and to the Snobeck racing team . There he finished his last DTM season in 23rd place.

In 1992 and 1993 Giroix drove in the French touring car championship in a BMW or a Seat. In 1993 he founded his own team, the Giroix Racing Team ( GRT ). In 1994 and 1995 he used his team in the Porsche Supercup before he got himself a McLaren F1 GTR in early 1995 and started with it in the BPR GT series. In 1996 and 1997 he then drove with Lotus in the Esprit V8 and Elise GT models in the BPR and FIA GT1 series.

In 2000 Giroix tried a comeback with the FIRST team and a Ferrari 550 Maranello. He got out and drove jet ski races from 2001 to 2003. In 2004 he found pleasure in car races again and sporadically drove with the FIRST team in the FFSA - GT championship .

In 2007 he used his old Lotus Elise GT1 in the GT90 series. In 2008 he and his racing team First Centerville started two vehicles in the Speedcar series and also took part as a driver on all racing weekends.

In 2010 he drove partly in the French GT series and sporadically in the FIA GT3 European Championship and the Le Mans Series . In the following winter he finished third in the GT Championship of the United Arab Emirates with three wins . In 2011 he competed in six of the seven races of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (once as part of the American Le Mans Series ) and also had individual appearances in the FIA GT1 World Championship , the Le Mans Series, the Blancpain Endurance Series and the BOSS GP series.
