The Speedcar Series was a racing series that held its races exclusively in Asia . The first official season began in November 2007. After just two seasons, racing was stopped again.

history

In spring 2007 it was announced that a new racing series would start at the end of the year. One of the first drivers to jump into the series straight away, and in a certain way served as a promotional figure in the months that followed, was former F1 driver Jean Alesi . Even Johnny Herbert , Gianni Morbidelli and Stefan Johansson explained briefly that they will go into the new series. The first test, in which Tony Ave and NASCAR driver Mike Bliss also took part, took place in early March 2007. The first official race of the Speedcar Series started on November 3, 2007 at the Bahrain International Circuit in as-Sachir , Bahrain . At the end of March 2008, the former Formula 1 and IndyCar champion Jacques Villeneuve and the former Formula 1 driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen also declared their entry into the Speedcar Series. After the 2008/09 season, racing was stopped.

Race weekend format

The events were held on two consecutive days:

Day 1:

  • Official training
  • qualification
  • Race 1

Day 2:

  • Training (warm up)
  • Race 2

Both races started on the fly, covered a distance of 90 miles and lasted a maximum of 45 minutes. Refueling the cars during the race was not allowed.

vehicles

In the Speedcar Series, vehicles with touring car silhouettes ( stock cars ) were used, which were similar to those of the NASCAR Sprint Cup . As in a one-make cup , all participants had the same technical material. The standard chassis had a V8 engine with around 630 hp and a four-speed gearbox. The racing tires, slicks or rain tires, came from Michelin .
