The V8 Vantage is the base model of the Vantage series and is the production model of the Aston Martin AMV8 Vantage Concept presented in 2005 , the Roadster followed in 2007. All Vantage models are based on the internal VH platform , which is used in almost all models from the V12 Vanquish to was used for DB10 . The 4.3-liter V8 is based on the Jaguar AJ V8 engine , which has been completely redesigned for Aston Martin and develops 283 kW (385 hp) in the V8 Vantage. This accelerates both the Coupé and the Roadster from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.0 seconds, the top speed of both versions is 280 km / h.

On December 11, 2007, the Aston Martin V12 Vantage RS Concept was presented to the public in Gaydon , and the series model was launched in 2009. The V12 Vantage is based on the V8 Vantage Coupé. The engine develops up to 380 kW (517 hp) at 6500 rpm and has a maximum torque of 570 Nm at 5750 rpm. The 6-speed manual transmission is located on the rear axle with a cardan housing made of aluminum and a drive shaft made of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic . The body consists of an aluminum structure with various magnesium alloys, composites and steel. Aston Martin specifies the total production time as 220 hours. Externally, the V12 can be distinguished from the V8 by the more pronounced front and rear diffusers, in addition to the air scoops in the bonnet . Production of the V12 Vantage was discontinued in 2013 in favor of the V12 Vantage S.

In the third quarter of 2008, after three years of construction, a mainly technically revised version of the V8 Vantage with a revised V8 engine came onto the market. The 4.7-liter engine with 313 kW (426 hp) replaces the previous 4.3-liter V8 with 283 kW (385 hp). It has a torque of 470 Nm at 5750 rpm, accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 288 km / h. This makes it 0.2 seconds or 8 km / h faster than the previous model. Consumption drops by 4 liters to 13.2 liters per 100 km. Together with the enlargement of the tank, this creates a greater range. The automatic transmission was also revised. The steering and the Bilstein chassis were also modified with new springs.

A new sports package includes forged five-spoke alloy wheels , firmer shock absorbers and modified springs, as well as new rear stabilizers for the Coupé. External changes only affect the wheels, which are now standard in 19-inch format and have 20 spokes, and the newly designed front and rear diffusers . In the interior there was a revised center console, a hard drive navigation system and a connection for an MP3 player . The conventional vehicle key has been replaced by the so-called Emotional Control Unit (ECU) made of glass, polished stainless steel and polycarbonate. This module is pushed into a special opening and the engine is started at the push of a button.

Minor refreshments have also been undertaken over the years. All Vantage models received the AMi II infotainment system in 2015 and the AMi III infotainment system and a new 7-speed manual transmission for the V12 Vantage S.

N24 and GT4

Aston Martin V8 Vantage N24

The racing debut of the V8 Vantage N24 with 4.3-liter V8 engine presented in 2006 was at the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring . Former CEO Ulrich Bez , chief engineer Chris Porritt , Wolfgang Schuhbauer and Horst von Saurma-Jeltsch finished the run in fourth place in the class. 2007 for the SRO discharged GT4 European Cup made a special racing version of the Vantage and the preliminary test on the Autodromo Nazionale Monza piloted by Chris Porritt. In the following two championship races, Porritt and his team-mate Jacob Nellermann finished the races on the podium. Nellermann was also able to take a victory in the opening race at Silverstone . The vehicles were then sold to customer teams. However, these were initially unable to build on the performance of the works team.

By individual type approval some N24 copies later acquired the street legal .

In addition to the “Rose” prototype, Aston Martin built a further 14 vehicles with chassis numbers AMLVANTAGEN240001 to AMLVANTAGEN240015 (with the exception of number 13) in the Special Vehicle Operations department in Gaydon. Originally, however, 24 vehicles were planned for the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring and the success of Aston Martin there in the 1950s. From the remaining nine vehicle components, a further 39 copies of the N24 with the chassis code "S" for Sportshift gearshift and "M" for manual gearshift were made from modified series vehicles by Prosport Racing, which is now committed to racing at Aston Martin.

Despite the unsuccessfulness of the customer teams, further vehicles were sold before the 2008 season and, in addition to the European Cup, various national racing series such as the British, Spanish and Belgian GT championships, they were also used in a brand cup in Asia that was specially held for this purpose. The car achieved several class wins in the GT4 series with the Jetalliance, SpeedLover and Beechdean Motorsport teams, but could not win a championship at the end of the year.

At the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring in 2008, the first three places in the class were achieved by the two Aston Martin-owned N24 works vehicles "Rose" (chassis CP025) and "Kermit" (chassis N24007) as well as the N24 Vehicle of the customer team Gentle Swiss Racing "Barry" (N240011) can be reached.

In the 2010 season of the GT4 European Cup, 8 of the 12 races were won by V8 Vantage N24. The drivers Paul Meijer and Michael Mallock , who start for different teams , also took the first two places in the championship.

GT3

Aston Martin GT8 works racing car in the VLN series 3 on June 24, 2017 at the Nürburgring (driver Alexander Kolb)

A racing version for GT3 races was presented in 2012 based on the V12 Vantage . The V12 Vantage GT3 is intended to replace the DBRS9 , which has been used in races since 2005.

GT2

Vantage GT2 at the Laguna Seca Raceway

After the presentation of the GT4 vehicle in 2008, Aston Martin named one of the GT2 group's technical regulations in the pre-tests for the FIA GT Championship and the Le Mans Series . Following the tests, James Watt Automotive and Drayson-Barwell each drove a V8 Vantage GT2 in the Le Mans Series and the American Le Mans Series . The commitment to JWA was canceled before the first 1000 km race, although the car was participating in training. It was not until the last championship round in Silverstone that Alan van der Merwe , Tim Sugden and Michael Outzen made their racing debuts in the European endurance series. Jonathan Cocker and Paul Drayson's car took part in the entire American Le Mans Series season from the championship run on the Long Beach street circuit and finished all races in the midfield of its class. In October, Aston Martin Racing took over two outings in the so far unsuccessful GT2. Since the vehicle was not yet homologated by the FIA , Stefan Mücke and Tomáš Enge had to start in the G2 category provided for this. Since they only competed against an older Gillet Vertigo in their class , the duo won in Nogaro and Zolder , but lagged behind the other GT2 vehicles.

For the 2009 season, Drayson switched to the Le Mans Series with the Vantage. After a few midfield placements at the beginning of the year, the car retired from the additional 24-hour race at Le Mans . After that, team owner Drayson could no longer book a finish. James Watt sold his car to Asia. There, the vehicle was used in the two races of the Asian Le Mans Series at the end of 2009 , but only came in last in the GT2. Hexis took over the works team's car in the FIA GT championship and, with Frédéric Makowiecki and Stefan Mücke, achieved their first podium finish in the GT2 class at the championship run in Oschersleben.
