The abbreviation DB stands for David Brown , the longtime owner of Aston Martin.
Model history
The formal premiere of the vehicle took place at the IAA 2003 with the 2 + 2-seater coupé . The formal premiere of the 2 + 2-seater convertible named DB9 Volante took place at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in 2004.
It was built in the Aston Martin factory in Gaydon from January 2004 to July 2016 .
Aston Martin hoped to be able to sell around 5000 copies of the DB9 worldwide each year, which roughly corresponds to the sales figures of the Ferrari F430 and Porsche 911 Turbo and should ensure the continued existence of the brand for the time being.
Model maintenance
2008
In July 2008, Aston Martin redesigned the DB9. This facelift mainly included an increase in engine power and a redesigned center console. Externally, the DB9 remained almost unchanged.
2010
In 2010 the appearance of the vehicle was changed slightly.
2012
In October 2012 the DB9 was extensively revised. The design differs only slightly from the previous DB9. The DB9 continued to be offered as a Coupé and Volante.
Aston Martin DB9 Spyder Centennial Zagato, 2013
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Aston Martin in 2013, the Italian design studio Zagato built a unique piece called the DB9 Spyder Centennial based on the DB9 Volante. It was unveiled at the brand's 100th anniversary celebration in Kensington Gardens , London in July 2013 and set up within a year.
2015
On June 24, 2015, a revised version of the DB9 was presented under the name DB9 GT . The AMi II infotainment system is used inside, the AMi III from model year 2017. The abbreviation GT was also used on other DB models, for example the DB4 GT and the DB7 GT .
2016
At the end of production of the series, a special series of 9 coupés and 9 volantes, the "Last of 9", was launched. The last 9 coupés and flounces left the production line were given a special equipment and color combination that had never been seen before; special paintwork in cumberland gray, headlining made of cashmere (coupé), wooden console made of "fiddleback straight grain", Aston Martin wings made of mother-of-pearl and "Last of 9" embroidery.
Vehicle characteristics
engine
Both models have in common the V12 engine taken from the V12 Vanquish , which originally had a maximum output of 335 kW (456 hp).
During the facelift in 2008, the maximum power of the engine was first increased to 350 kW (476 PS) and in 2012 to 380 kW (517 PS).
In the DB9 GT, the 5.9-liter V12 engine now delivers a maximum of 402 kW (547 hp) and accelerates the sports car from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.5 seconds.
Body and chassis
The vehicle was built in two body variants, the coupé and the cabriolet. It was designed by Ian Callum , and his successor Henrik Fisker completed it.
The aluminum monocoque was modified so extensively during the facelift in 2012 that a completely new vehicle was created. The DB9 shares essential technology components such as the aluminum monocoque and the wheel suspension with the Vanquish .
The 2015 presented DB9 GT is externally next to the badges u. a. recognizable by the black painted splinters and diffuser as well as new wheels .
Related vehicles
The vehicle is based on the Aston Martin VH platform .
In 2007, a DB9-based successor to the Vanquish appeared with the DBS , which took on the role of Aston Martin's new flagship. In 2012, a new model, again called Vanquish , replaced the DBS.
With the profound facelift of the DB9 in 2012, production of the Virage was discontinued.
