The Aston Martin Rapide is a sports sedan produced by the British car manufacturer Aston Martin . The name rapide comes from the Lagonda Rapide , a four-door sedan based on the DB4 .

history

The Rapide was presented as a concept car at the North American International Auto Show in 2006. Due to capacity bottlenecks, the 2.5 cm higher series version was manufactured at Magna Steyr in Graz from October 2009 to mid-2012 before production could be relocated to Gaydon , Warwickshire . Aston Martin expects sales of 2000 vehicles per year.

At the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2019, the manufacturer presented the Rapide E, a battery-electric version of the vehicle. It is the first all-electric powered model from Aston Martin.

The Rapide borrows design elements typical of the brand from the DB9 and V12 Vanquish models , on whose shared VH platform it is based. Compared to the DB9, however, the wheelbase has been stretched by 30 cm in order to create space for two more doors and full rear seats. These can be folded over electrically so that a trunk with a capacity of 750 liters is created. The Rapide, which has a basic price of 180,000 euros, only has a normal roof compared to the panorama roof from the concept vehicle.

The hand-assembled V12 engine also comes from the DB9. It develops a maximum output of 350 kW (477 hp) and a maximum torque of 600 Nm, which enables acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.3 seconds and a top speed of 296 km / h. The power is transmitted via a 6-speed automatic transmission.

At the Geneva Motor Show in March 2013, Aston Martin presented a performance-enhanced version of the Rapide. The Rapide S differs on the outside through modified bumpers with a significantly larger radiator grille. The six-liter V12 naturally aspirated engine in this version has an output of 410 kW (558 hp).

A racing version of the Rapid S whose on V12 hydrogen OPERATION (pure or partial operation) and Twin Turbo -Aufladung had been converted, also came at 24 Hours Nürburgring 2013 are used. The team appeared as a participant in the Alternative Fuels u. a. with Ulrich Bez , former managing director of Aston Martin, as driver.

In 2014 the Rapide S was technically revised. As with the Vanquish , there was a slight increase in output to 411 kW (560 hp), a new 8-speed automatic transmission , a new drive shaft and the recalibration of the adaptive damping system . In 2015 the new infotainment system AMi II was installed in both the Rapide S and the Vantage models , and in 2016 the infotainment system AMi III .

Rapide AMR

The Aston Martin Rapide AMR was presented as a concept vehicle at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. Aston Martin presented the production vehicle in June 2018. It is being built in collaboration with Aston Martin Racing (AMR). The 5.9-liter V12 now develops 444 kW (603 hp) and the top speed is 330 km / h. Outwardly, it differs from the other models with new front and rear aprons and a new exhaust system. Inside, materials such as Alcantara or carbon fiber reinforced plastic are used. The Rapide AMR is limited to 210 copies.

After the DB4 GT Bertone Jet and the Bertone Jet 2 , the Bertone Jet 2 + 2 is the third vehicle from the Italian design studio Bertone based on an Aston Martin. The Shooting Brake , which was also presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2013, is based on the Rapide and was manufactured on customer request.

In April 2019, the Rapide was presented as an electric version limited to 155 copies. Two electric motors together deliver 448 kW (610 hp) and should accelerate the vehicle to 100 km / h in under four seconds. The maximum speed is Aston Martin with 248 km / h. The lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 65 kWh and should enable a range of 320 kilometers after the WLTP driving cycle . Aston Martin states the charging time to a full charge at a conventional charging station (50 kW, 400 V) is just over an hour.
