The Aston Martin V12 Vanquish is a sports car produced by the British car manufacturer Aston Martin from 2001 to 2007 . He was best known for the James Bond film Die Another Day .
Model history
The vehicle was preceded by a concept vehicle , the Aston Martin Project Vantage , presented at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in 1998 . In March 1998 after the Geneva Motor Show , development of the series vehicle began. Initially, the development was carried out under Project Bolton , later the internal name was changed to AMV03 .
In October 2000 the first photos and of the production vehicle were published. It was officially on public display for the first time at the 2001 Geneva Motor Show. According to the manufacturer, 70 prototype and pre-series vehicles had been produced by then. The V12 Vanquish was mostly handcrafted at the Aston Martin Newport Pagnell plant from 2001 .
In 2004, the more powerful V12 Vanquish S was presented at the Mondial de l'Automobile in Paris .
In July 2007 production ran out after 2578 vehicles with the special model V12 Vanquish S Ultimate Edition.
body
The vehicle could be ordered as a pure two-seater or, if desired, as a 2 + 2-seater.
The design created by Ian Callum is based on that of the Project Vantage concept vehicle, but only the roof has been retained.
In the case of the V12 Vanquish S vehicles, due to the rounder radiator grille, the opening was enlarged to improve cooling. Furthermore, a spoiler lip on the front bumper ensures higher contact pressure, while the redesigned rear section generates more downforce at high speeds.
Furnishing
The car was equipped with full leather upholstery, seat heating, navigation system, parking aid and other comfort features as standard and thus follows the company philosophy of building luxury sports cars. Upon request, the vehicle was provided with a dedication plaque for the owner, and the paint color could also be individually selected from several thousand possible colors.
drive
The drive is a 5.9-liter V12 engine in Stage 2 coordination with a lighter valve train , lighter camshaft and crankshaft , which was already used in the Aston Martin DB7 with a Stage 1 set-up and is technically closely related to the 3rd , 0-liter V6 engine from the Duratec engine family of the former parent company Ford is related. He was on 28 October 2004 in a separate building in the Ford - engine plant in Cologne-Niehl manufactured and with further modifications to the DB11 installed in Aston Martin models. It has a maximum output of 338 kW (460 hp) and a maximum torque of 542 Nm. The S version of the V12 Vanquish not only differs externally, but also in terms of the engine: it now delivers a maximum of 388 kW (528 hp) and the maximum torque increases to 577 Nm.
The manual transmission is automated (with an electro-hydraulically operated clutch), has six gears and was supplied by Tremec . With a conversion kit, the gearbox can be converted to manual operation by Aston Martin Works.
Zagato concept vehicles
In 2004, the Italian design studios Zagato and Bertone presented two concept vehicles based on the V12 Vanquish at the Geneva Motor Show , each of which is unique.
