The Aston Martin V12 Zagato is a sports car produced by the British car manufacturer Aston Martin . The coupé, limited to 101 copies, was developed in collaboration with the Italian design studio Zagato .
background
Aston Martin and Zagato had a business relationship as early as the 1950s . In 1960, Zagato had dressed a special edition of the Aston Martin DB4 , which was called DB4 GT Zagato and which soon became a classic in automotive engineering. At the 1984 Geneva Motor Show , the two companies agreed to start a new project. The result was the V8 Zagato in 1987 . Furthermore, from 2002-2004 Zagato built the DB7 Zagato and DB AR1 models, each limited to 99 pieces, on the DB7 . The V12 Zagato thus continues the tradition of this collaboration.
Vehicle characteristics
The V12 Zagato is based on the V12 Vantage , the engine has been adopted. The V12 gasoline engine generates 380 kW (517 hp) and 570 Nm from a displacement of 5.9 liters and drives the rear wheels. The manufacturer specifies a top speed of 305 km / h and 4.2 seconds for the sprint from standstill to 100 km / h. At its premiere on May 21, 2011 at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este on Lake Como, the V12 Zagato was voted the most beautiful prototype by the public. Initially, there were only two models without road approval with racetrack design that were already taking part in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring.
On February 9, 2012, production started in small series. 101 pieces were produced at a price of approx. 500,000 euros. When putting together the materials and in terms of design, the experience gained from developing the One-77 super sports car was used . The roof, the bonnet and the doors are handmade from aluminum, the front and rear fenders, the trunk lid and the side skirts are made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic to keep the curb weight low.
The most important elements at the front are the dominant grille with serrated slats, the oval headlights, the lip under the front bumper, the large air inlets in the hood and on the sides and its fixed rear spoiler. Compared to the Vantage base, the body at the rear is significantly shortened, the round rear lights are reminiscent of the DB4 GT Zagato. In the roof there are two arches typical of Zagato - the so-called "double bubble" - to increase the headroom for the passengers. In the interior, Aston Martin uses leather bucket seats with contrasting stitching, the "Z" from Zagato can be found everywhere in the interior.
