The Aston Martin DBS is a sports car presented in 2007 by the British car manufacturer Aston Martin . The model became known to the general public back in 2006 in the James Bond film Casino Royale .
history
As early as 1967 to 1972 there was an Aston Martin model under the name DBS that was powered by R6 and V8 engines. The new DBS was launched in the spring of 2008 after production started at the Aston Martin factory in Gaydon in October 2007 . The basic price of the DBS, which is now powered by a V12 , was around 250,000 euros in Germany .
Model variants
DBS Coupé
The DBS is based on the DB9 . Like this one, it is based on the internal VH platform and has the same roof, the same side windows and the same chassis as the sister model, but is 100 kilograms lighter, has a 25 mm lower ground clearance and is 40 mm wider than that DB9. In order to generate additional downforce on the rear axle , there is a fixed spoiler edge on the trunk lid .
The front of the vehicle is dominated by the radiator grille and air intakes , which supply the 5.9-liter V12 engine with the necessary cooling air. This delivers up to 380 kW (517 PS) at 6500 rpm and has a maximum torque of 570 Nm (419 ft lbs ) at 5750 rpm.
The power is transmitted via a manually operated 6-speed gearbox . From the end of 2008 Aston Martin also offered the automatic version Touchtronic , which enables shifting via paddle shifters on the steering wheel . The automatic transmission , manufactured by the German automotive supplier and specialist for driveline and chassis technology, ZF , transmits the drive power to the rear axle via a torque converter with planetary gear sets.
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Aston Martin in 2013, the Italian design studio Zagato built a unique piece with the name DBS Coupé Centennial based on the DBS. In addition, a convertible based on the DB9 with the name DB9 Spyder Centennial was presented.
DBS Volante
In the spring of 2009, the DBS Volante convertible version was presented at the Geneva Motor Show . The engine corresponds to that of the coupé, in the interior of the convertible with a maximum speed of 295 km / h there are only two additional rear seats in contrast to the coupé. The fabric roof of the DBS, which can be operated up to a speed of 48 km / h even while driving, opens or closes within 14 seconds. The basic prices of the DBS Volante started at 253,850 euros in Germany .

DBS in the film
Before the official start of sales, the DBS was used in the 21st James Bond film Casino Royale . Many of the additional equipment in the film, such as a helmet holder behind the driver's seat, a glove compartment with several drawers and an integrated Walther P99 including a silencer , an antidote ampoule and an automatic external defibrillator (AED) were reserved for the vehicles used during the shoot.
In addition to being used in Casino Royale , the vehicle can be seen in the prologue of the 22nd James Bond film, A Quantum of Solace in a Car Chase , released in 2008 . During the shooting of the film there was an accident on the morning of April 19, 2008 at around 6:30 a.m. in which a technician drove a DBS into Lake Garda . The 29-year-old driver Fraser Dunn at the time of the accident was only slightly injured, but the vehicle was a total write-off .
