The Aston Martin DB3 is a sports roadster that was developed by Aston Martin in 1951 exclusively for racing. It replaced the three copies of the DB2 model converted for racing , which were last used in Le Mans in 1951 .

overview

Like its predecessor, the DB3 has a 6-cylinder in-line engine from Lagonda with 2 overhead camshafts and a displacement of 2580 cm³. However, the engine developed here with 3 Weber carburettors 140 bhp (103 kW) at 5200 rpm. In 1953 the model was discontinued.

From 1955 there was the Aston Martin DB3 / S . It was also designed as a pure racing vehicle and had a 6-cylinder DOHC engine with a displacement of 2922 cm³. With the 3 Weber carburettors, the engine developed 180 bhp (132 kW); the version with 3 Solex carburetors had 210 bhp (154 kW). The body was smaller than that of the previous model.

In 1956 the Aston Martin DBR1 / 300 replaced the DB3 / S. The again somewhat larger car had the engine of its predecessor, which developed 265 bhp (195 kW) with 3 Weber carburettors.
