The Aston Martin Lagonda Taraf is a four - door luxury sedan produced by the British car manufacturer Aston Martin . With the model Aston Martin wants to revive the Lagonda brand belonging to the company .
Vehicle history
After Aston Martin took over their previous competitor Lagonda in the summer of 1947, four-door sedans with Aston Martin technology were sold under the Lagonda brand until the 1990s. Some of them were extended versions of the contemporary Aston Martin two-door models. This applies to the Lagonda Series 1 based on the V8 or to the long versions of the Virage . In some cases, however, independent-looking models such as the Lagonda Rapide or the wedge-shaped saloon of the 2-4 series appeared under the Lagonda label.
After a twenty-year hiatus, the Lagonda brand name reappeared on a four-door sedan for the first time in 2014: in autumn 2014 Aston Martin presented the Lagonda Taraf in Dubai . This should initially be reserved for customers from the Middle East . In 2016, however, Aston Martin decided to offer the Taraf on the domestic market as well as in continental Europe .
The Lagonda Taraf competed with the Bentley Mulsanne , the Mercedes-Maybach models and the Rolls-Royce Phantom .
Vehicle characteristics
The Lagonda Taraf is based on the Aston Martin Rapide , but has been optically redesigned by Marek Reichman. The in-house VH platform was extended to increase the space available in the vehicle rear. The drive is the 5.9-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine , which is built by Ford in Cologne and has an output of 411 kW (560 hp). The rear wheels are driven by an automatic transmission with eight speed levels; the maximum speed is 314 km / h.
production
The Taraf was in Aston Martin plant in Gaydon ( Warwickshire produced) by hand. Its scope of production was limited. By the end of 2015, around 40 copies had been produced, with the first delivery taking place in early 2016. Aston Martin stated that Aston Martin wanted to produce “no more than 200 vehicles”. Production was stopped in December 2016.
