Mercedes-Maybach S 650 (second facelift)

Mercedes-Maybach has been a supplementary brand of the German automobile brand Mercedes-Benz since the end of 2014 . It succeeds the previously existing Maybach Manufactory , a division of Daimler AG that produced and sold Maybach limousines .

prehistory

Maybach-Motorenbau GmbH sold luxury automobiles under the Maybach brand from 1921 to 1941. 1960 Daimler-Benz took over Maybach-Motorenbau GmbH and with it the trademark rights. Maybach-Motorenbau GmbH was renamed MTU Friedrichshafen in 1969 .

It was not until 2000 that the Daimler-Benz successor group DaimlerChrysler (today Daimler AG ) announced that it would be selling vehicles under the Maybach brand again from 2002. At the end of 2002, the first vehicles from the Maybach manufacture were finally delivered.

In November 2011, Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche announced that the Maybach brand would be discontinued in 2012 in favor of further models of the Mercedes S-Class . On December 17, 2012, the last Maybach vehicle left the Maybach factory at the Daimler plant in Sindelfingen. The Maybach limousines were sold until 2013, after which the Maybach name was no longer to be used.

Study Mercedes-Maybach 6 (2016)

The Mercedes-Maybach 6 concept vehicle was presented at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in August 2016 . The 5.70 meter long two-door model shows a possible Maybach Coupé that could come onto the market as an alternative to the Wraith and Phantom Coupé models from Rolls-Royce . The drive in the study is provided by four electric motors that drive all four wheels and achieve a total output of 550 kW (750 hp). The flat batteries, which with a capacity of 80 kWh allow a range of 500 km, are placed on the floor of the vehicle despite the low vehicle height of 1.30 m. When charging with direct current of up to 350 kW, it should be possible to charge energy for around 100 km in five minutes.

The vehicle has a head-up display over the entire windscreen, electronic exterior mirrors and sensors on the seats that transmit the information about the color of the clothing of the occupants to electronics to generate appropriate lighting moods. The four-seater accelerates to 100 km / h in under four seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 km / h. As early as 2005, the Maybach factory had presented the Exelero, a comparable luxury coupé with a gasoline engine; From 2010 to 2011 a limited number of 100 coupés based on the Maybach 57 S of a similar size were available, which were manufactured by Xenatec. Their top speed was 275 km / h.
