Company history

Convertible conversion of an Opel Ascona from Keinath

Horst Keinath (* 1943, † 2011) previously owned an Opel agency in Dettingen an der Erms together with his two brothers and, after leaving this company, which went into bankruptcy around 2000, developed their own car based on the Opel GT . The basic shape was an original Opel GT from the 1970s, which was increased in width by around 20 cm. Initially conceived as a coupé , it later became a convertible with a fully retractable hardtop .

Keinath GT / R

The Keinath GT / R was a convertible with a fully retractable GRP roof that looks quite similar to the Opel GT. An Opel V6 engine and an Opel chassis are hidden under its GRP body. The price was around 180,000 DM. In total, a maximum of 21 vehicles of this type were probably built between 1997 and 2000. Exact numbers are not known. The registered maximum speed is 240 km / h. The supply of spare parts is ensured by Opel to this day.

Keinath GT / C

2000, the second model, which appeared Keinath GT / C . Its body style is no longer based on the Opel GT, but was developed by Edag Engineering + Design AG for Keinath. Like its predecessor, it has a steel frame and a GRP body and is powered by an Opel V6 engine. The 3.2-liter unit develops 218 hp (160 kW) and accelerates the 1320 kg vehicle from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.3 seconds. The top speed is 248 km / h. The GT / C is 4280 mm long and 1840 mm wide. Its consumption is 10.5 l / 100 km. The sales price was 179,300 DM when it was launched. However, only 2 prototypes of the GT / C were made, which Edag now owns. This vehicle was the "main actor" in the German television film "Erlkönig", which was shown on ZDF on July 23, 2010.
