The e.GO Mobile AG is a German automobile manufacturer for electric cars based in Aachen . The company, which was founded in 2015, presented its first production model e.GO Life in March 2017 , which has been available for pre-order since May 2017 and has been delivered gradually since May 2019.

The start-up company emerged in 2015 from the environment of the WZL machine tool laboratory at RWTH Aachen University and is a spin-off from RWTH Aachen University . The company is managed by RWTH Professor Günther Schuh . Schuh is co-founder of the electric vehicle manufacturer Streetscooter , which was founded in 2010 and has been a subsidiary of Deutsche Post since 2014 .

The first product to be developed was a leisure vehicle for adults, the e.GO Kart. On March 17, 2017, the company presented its first series model e.GO Life at CEBIT . In addition to the showroom in Aachen, the company opened pop-up stores in Bonn , Neuss and Cologne from March 2018 .

e.GO Life

A small electric car that has been available for pre-orders since May 2017. At the end of November 2019, the number of binding customer orders was 400 vehicles and 3,100 non-binding pre-orders. Series production of the most powerfully motorized model, the Life 60, began in the "First Edition" configuration in April 2019; the first vehicles were delivered on May 8, 2019. At that time, it was planned to deliver 4,300 electric cars by the end of 2019. According to the company, a total of 500 customer vehicles had been produced by Christmas 2019. However, only 171 vehicles of the type e.Go Life First Edition were registered in Germany in 2019. The list price for the "First Edition" model was EUR 24,650, the currently available Life 60 model is offered at a base price of EUR 21,900. The list prices of the planned Life 20 and Life 40 models were announced at 17,900 and 20,600 euros, respectively.

e.GO Mover

The electric city bus for up to 15 people who could be pre-ordered in October 2017 from April 2020 as should joint venture of e.GO Moove GmbH with a subsidiary of the technology group ZF Friedrichshafen and in cooperation with Nvidia as a fully automated e-Bus autonomous driving in series production and the first 250 vehicles are assembled in a newly set up assembly hall in Aachen Rothe Erde . Due to a production stop as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany and the unresolved protective shield proceedings at the Aachen district court, the previously planned production figures cannot be met until further notice.

e.GO Kart

The Kettcar with pedelec engine, designed as a leisure vehicle for adults, reaches a top speed of 25 km / h and a range of 25 km.

Funding problems

In January 2020 it became known that e.Go Mobile was in liquidity problems due to a delay in the approval and delivery of the e.Go Life and was only saved from bankruptcy in October 2019 by a loan from the shareholders . In March 2020, the company sought public funding and investors to bridge a financial bottleneck. According to the company, “only a few million euros” were missing in the financial planning for 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , there were delays in deliveries. At the beginning of April 2020, the company embarked on protective shield proceedings .

On July 1, 2020, bankruptcy proceedings were opened and production stopped.

The first e.GO Mobile production plant was opened in Aachen in July 2018. 10,000 e.GO Life are to be produced annually on 16,000 m². It will take around 17 hours to assemble a vehicle that will be assembled at 28 individual stations.

The company has been promoting the Ladies in Black Aachen , the volleyball Bundesliga team of the PTSV Aachen, since the 2015/16 season .
