Mia electric vehicle from the manufacturer Mia electric

The mia electric GmbH based in Merzig (Germany) and Cerizay (France) developed the electric car Mia and was located from 2014 in bankruptcy and was subsequently liquidated.

Corporate development

Beginnings and further course

Mia electric GmbH was the majority shareholder of a subsidiary based in Cerizay in western France, which was formed in June 2010 from the electric car division of the French vehicle developer Heuliez . This production plant employed around 210 people and had an annual capacity of 10,000 vehicles.

The majority of the French production company mia electric was held by the German mia electric GmbH. The sole shareholder of mia electric GmbH was the Saarland pharmaceutical entrepreneur Edwin Kohl ( kohlpharma ). The formerly involved Essen-based con | energy AG had already withdrawn at the end of 2011. In 2012, Lautlos durch Deutschland GmbH took over the distribution of mia electric as general importer for Germany.

In June 2013 Edwin Kohl sold his 88 percent stake in Focus Asia GmbH, based in Darmstadt. The latter is backed by international investors , more precisely a Sino-Korean consortium . from stock fund companies The reason was that the number of electric cars sold fell short of expectations.

The French region of Poitou-Charentes remained minority shareholders with 12% company shares . On October 7, 2013, the new head of mia electric, Michele Boos, announced that the company's sales would be increased by lowering prices with the aid of “a more aggressive pricing policy” and that “Mia would be affordable for more interested buyers”. The new majority owners planned to market the Mia electric car primarily in China in the future. The development department and small series production were to remain in Cerizay, France.

Sales problems, financial difficulties, bankruptcy

As Mia's sales fell well short of operational plans, mia electric's prospects were unclear. The wages of January 2014 were not paid to the 210 employees on time and production in Cerizay had been idle since mid-December 2013 because suppliers could not be paid.

On February 12, 2014 a court application was made for bankruptcy protection. The company's activities were continued by the managing director Michelle Boos. She was assigned an administrator appointed by the court. The company was to be restructured within the next six months. In mid-March 2014, the proposed restructuring plan was questioned by the responsible bankruptcy court. There was no more radical restructuring. In the second half of September 2014, mia electric's automobile brand, patents and production facilities were sold to the highest bidder, a consortium, at a price of 1.35 million euros as part of an insolvency settlement. The consortium, called "Mia Génération", consisted of the companies Kokam, Fulmen and Focus Asia. The Court of Appeal in Poitiers annulled this sale in May 2015. On July 8, 2015, another auction was scheduled. This time an anonymous bidder prevailed at a price of 800,000 euros. In 2018, the Swiss company Fox Automotive, based in Herisau, announced that it had acquired assets, including trademark rights and patents, in the process for the Mia; production was initially planned for 2019 in Hungary. In autumn 2019, Fox Automotive announced that production would not start until 2020.
