Fiberfab GmbH Fiberglas-Formteile , initially Fiberfab body , is a German company and a former manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Jörgfrieder Kuhnle, who worked for Fiberfab Inc. in Santa Clara (California) in the early 1960s , founded the Fiberfab body in January 1966 in the Rems Valley. Soon afterwards he relocated the company to Ditzingen in a workshop of the former Ditzinger brickworks. Kuhnle began producing automobiles there under the brand name Fiberfab . At first close relationships existed with the American Fiberfab Inc. as licensor, but these were soon dissolved. In 1972 the company moved to Auenstein .

In 1985 the production of automobiles ended, since then only fiberglass molded parts for buses and for racing and tuning operations have been manufactured. Jörgfrieder Kuhnle withdrew from the management of the company in 1998 and handed it over to his son Christian Kuhnle. The company now operates as Fiberfab GmbH Fiberglas-Formteile .

vehicles

The company manufactured kit cars with a body made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic . Initially, coupés based on VW were on offer. In 1966 the Aztec GT appeared , in 1967 the Bonanza GT and 1968 the Bonito , of which a total of a little more than 1000 kits were delivered before production was discontinued in 1979 due to increasing TÜV requirements.

From 1975 to 1982 Fiberfab delivered the Sherpa model , an open vehicle similar to the Citroën Méhari . The chassis came from the Citroën 2 CV . The vehicle offered space for four people. A hardtop was available on request. Only a few copies of the Sherpa have survived.
