The German E-Cars GmbH (GEC) was a medium-sized company in northern Hesse Grebenstein in Kassel , offering products and services in the fields of energy and mobility, such as electric drive systems and energy storage at. Since 2016 there has been a successor company with the same logo and the same web address.

Company history

German E-Cars GmbH was founded by the Fräger Group in 2009 as a sister company. Since 2009, three electric vehicle models - including a commercial vehicle - and other customer-specific applications have been launched. German E-Cars GmbH was not affected by the insolvency of the Fräger parent company in 2013. In 2016 the company went bankrupt itself. The newly founded German E-Cars Technology GmbH (GECT) continues the service for electric vehicles in Kassel.

STROMOS

The STROMOS, which has been sold since 2010, is based on the Suzuki Splash / Opel Agila B microvan model , in which an electric drive train is installed. The E-Powertrain consists of a lithium-ion battery divided into three battery boxes , an on-board charging unit, an inverter , the control electronics, an electric motor and the gearbox .

The motor installed on the front axle delivers a maximum of 56  kW with a torque of 140  Nm . This electronically limits the vehicle to a maximum speed of 120  km / h .

When converting to the electric drive, the original 5-speed manual transmission including the clutch was retained in most vehicles and the electric motor was connected to the motor flange. The forward gears and reverse gear were thus retained. Some vehicles received a single-stage reduction gearbox with a modified engine suspension and electrical changeover of the direction of travel.

The energy consumption is 15–20  kWh per 100 km. At this level of consumption, the lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 19.2 kWh supplies electrical energy for a range of 100 km and around 20 km, during which the on-board display reports "Reserve mode". In the event of further discharge, the BMS in early versions switches off the battery without further warning or power reduction in order to protect the traction battery from deep discharge. After later firmware updates, if there is a risk of cell undervoltage, a warning signal lights up and the power is reduced.

According to the manufacturer, the charging time for a full charge is up to 6 hours with around 3 kW charging power (Schuko socket). Intermediate charging - for example during work or lunch - leads to a distance gain of around 15 km per hour of charging time. Optionally, it can be charged with three-phase current with 9.6 kW. The charging time to full charge with an empty battery is then reduced to about two hours.

First-time customers are company car operators such as Siemens and SAP .

CETOS

The small car CETOS is based on the Opel Corsa . As a result, it combines its purely electric range of 120 kilometers with generous space and a top speed of 130 km / h. The charging time is between 2.5 hours (400 V, 3 phases) and 8 hours (230 V, 1 phase).

For the data on the body, chassis and safety equipment, see Opel Corsa .

PLANTOS

The PLANTOS, an electromobile vehicle based on the Mercedes Sprinter , is available as a transporter , flatbed truck , minibus or minibus . The PLANTOS covers a distance of up to 120 kilometers with purely electrical energy from lithium-ion batteries and, thanks to its variant-dependent payload, is ideal for transports within the city or in the surrounding area. The so-called citizen buses are an increasingly important application. These supplement existing offers in local public transport with additional options, especially in rural and small-town areas. The operators of these buses are mostly local voluntary associations.

The PLANTOS offers its driver independence from local restrictions due to environmental zones or diesel prices.

Construction of special vehicles

In cooperation with the Schwarzwälder Doll Fahrzeugbau AG, German E-Cars has developed and built special vehicles with a lifting function for airports, so-called “highlifters”. With such airfield vehicles, food containers or luggage are lifted flush with large aircraft.

Services offered by the company

German E-Cars GmbH offers many different services in the field of e-mobility:

  • mechanical construction including gearbox designs
  • Layout and design of electric drive trains
  • Development of power electronics for the drive train, battery management and the control of vehicles and applications
  • System design and software engineering
  • Prototype construction and homologation of vehicles
  • Development and design of customer and application-specific solutions
  • Development, design and support of the series start-up of customer solutions

credentials

From February 16 to May 16, 2011, Almuth Hartwig-Tiedt , State Secretary in the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Technology and Women, drove the STROMOS vehicle. She regularly reported on her experiences on her blog.

In March, the second Plantos transporter to the company Ihr Bäcker Schüren in Hilden was put into operation in the presence of the North Rhine-Westphalian Environment Minister Johannes Remmel.

In May, the first electrically operated citizens' bus in Baden-Württemberg was handed over in Stuttgart.
