The Opel Agila (from the Latin agilis, “flexible”, “agile”) is a microvan model and nominally the smallest series from the manufacturer Opel . The Agila is significantly shorter than the Corsa from the same company, but when all three main dimensions (length, width, height) are taken into account, it is almost the same size as this one, just differently proportioned. The successor (Agila B) is identical to the Suzuki Splash , in Great Britain the right-hand drive model is offered as the Vauxhall Agila .
The first generation of the Agila (Agila A) was produced from summer 2000 to autumn 2007. The second generation, the Agila B, which can only be called a van or microvan to a limited extent due to the significantly reduced height-to-length ratio, reached dealers in spring 2008.
Production ended in autumn 2014. Since mid-2015, its successor has been the Opel Karl small car , which is called Vauxhall Viva in Great Britain .

The 3.5 m long minivan Agila A resembled the earlier Suzuki Wagon R + except for the gasoline engines and the chassis set-up and was built in Gliwice, Poland . The basis for the Agila was the Concept-A study from 1999. The series vehicle was launched on the market in August 2000.
In August 2003, the Agila received a slight makeover (e.g. a chrome strut in the radiator grille). In addition, the output of the two gasoline engines has been increased and a 1.3 liter diesel engine has been added to the selection.

The second generation, the Agila B, was presented at the 2007 International Motor Show in Frankfurt . Sales started in April 2008.
As with the previous model, there was a cooperation between Opel and Suzuki , whose variant is called Splash . Both the Agila and the Splash were produced by Magyar Suzuki Zrt. in Esztergom (Hungary).
When the model changed, the Opel Agila grew to 3.74 m in length (+ 20 cm), 1.68 m in width (+ 6 cm) and shrunk to 1.59 m in height (- 7 cm), making it is significantly more elongated than its predecessor and therefore also appears more dynamic. The trunk has a capacity of 225 liters or a standard sports stroller, but can be expanded to up to 1050 liters by folding down the backrest. The tank holds 45 liters, the turning circle diameter is 9.6 m "from curb to curb" and 10 meters "from wall to wall". The technically permissible trailer load is very low at 200 kg (braked and unbraked).

The basic model was only available with a 1.0-liter petrol engine, which is also available in the more expensive Agila Edition , which is different from the basic model with its painted door handles and side mirrors. All models have a five-speed manual gearbox , and a four-speed automatic transmission is available on request for the 1.2-liter gasoline engine . The height of the driver and front passenger seats are adjustable. Speed-dependent power steering , internally ventilated disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear are also standard . The folding rear seat backrest is not split in the basic model. There is a possibility to deactivate the front passenger airbag and the radio is available.
Only a few optional extras could be ordered ex works. Only an electronic vehicle dynamics control (ESP) with traction control TCSS (Traction Control Support System) and an MP3 -taugliches CD radio are available at extra cost. Besides the two colors galaxy white and glowing red, other paint finishes cost extra and / or were only possible with the Edition model .
Only the more expensive Agila Edition, which was more than 3000 euros more expensive, offered additional comfort and safety with head airbags : a height-adjustable steering column, central locking with radio remote control, air conditioning, electric front windows, electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors, fog lights, tachometer, on-board computer, MP3-CD Radio and the 1/3 to 2/3 split rear seat back. Seat heating for the driver and front passenger seats was only available in the style package together with light alloy wheels, leather steering wheel and tinted windows at the rear.
safety
The Opel Agila are equipped with an anti-lock braking system including brake assist , disengaging safety pedals (PRS Pedal Release System) and front and side airbags as standard. Additional head airbags were only available as an option on the much more expensive Agila Edition model . The ESP with traction control TCSS, however, could also be ordered for the basic model.
The identical Suzuki Splash reached 2004 Euro NCAP - Crash test in the evaluation of occupant safety with 30 points four stars out of five in occupant safety for children 32 points and three stars of max. five and with 19 points (max. 36) in the assessment of pedestrian safety three out of four possible stars.
Engines
The Agila was offered with two petrol and one diesel engine. The two gasoline engines come from Suzuki. Since February 2010, Opel has also been offering the Agila with LPG drive ( liquid gas ), as 1.0 LPG ecoFLEX and 1.2 LPG ecoFLEX. The common rail diesel produced by Suzuki in India and originating from the cooperation between General Motors and Fiat has a diesel particulate filter as standard . The diesel engine is also used in the Suzuki Swift (1300 DDiS / 1.3 DDiS) and the Opel Corsa (1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX).
Production of the Agila ended in November 2014. The successor is called Opel Karl and appeared in mid-2015.
