Hurst was a German manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company Fahrzeugbau Hurst of Arthur Friedrich Hurst from Stuttgart started with the production of automobiles in 1946. From summer 1949 production took place in Stuttgart-Untertürkheim . At the beginning of 1950 vehicle production was stopped after 47 copies.

Hurst 250 from 1949

At the end of 1946, the first prototype of a small car was created especially for the physically handicapped. Therefore almost all controls were on the handlebars. It was a four-wheeled roadster with a convertible top that could accommodate two people. The motor with an initial 100 cc displacement and 2 PS came from NSU was mounted in the rear and the left rear powered. This was followed by three test cars with cylinder - two-stroke engine of ILO 250 cc and 6 hp. In the summer of 1948 the final version, called the Hurst 250 , appeared, which was produced from January 1949 in small series of only 49 pieces.

License production

Between April 1949 and autumn 1949 a licensee from Mannheim produced 32 copies of the vehicle.

Received vehicles

Two vehicles have been preserved and can be viewed in the Bert Grimmer vehicle collection in Eppelheim . The restored one shown here is one of 17 made by Friedrich Hurst in Stuttgart. Another 32 were built in Mannheim at Apparatebau Dr. Steinmann . The second previously known Hurst 250 in the Eppelheim vehicle collection comes from this production line. It has been jacked up in a dry garage since 1951 and is in its original condition. The first so-called cardboard letter is still available.
