Staunau was a manufacturer of ice machines and hoists in Hamburg-Harburg . In 1950 and 1951, small cars were also produced that were larger than the VW Beetle and looked like a luxurious mid-range car. The short development time of this car was achieved through extensive use of purchased parts (axles, gears, motors).
description
Karl-Heinz Staunau decided at the end of the 1940s to take part in the car boom at the beginning of the economic boom . A visit to the engine manufacturer Ilo gave him the idea. Staunau had aircraft designer Gerd Krebs design two types in a self-supporting shell construction, both of which were equipped with two-cylinder double-piston two-stroke engines from Ilo. The front-wheel drive cars used the front axle of a DKW pre-war model, had a hydraulic brake system, steering wheel switch, electric flashing system, folding seats and offered space for four people. Because the front seats were also designed in the form of a bench, six people could find space in the Staunau if necessary. The luggage compartment was only accessible from the inside.
The rear rigid axle had torsion bar suspension .
The production was not economically successful. Of the type K 400 (with three-speed gearbox), 64 pieces were produced in 1950/51, the larger type K 750 (with four-speed gearbox) produced 16 pieces in the same period. In Germany, 47 vehicles were registered in 1950 and 26 in 1951.
The K 400 cost 4752 DM, the K 750 6457 DM.
